And just to make you feel better - my wifes mercedes has an AWD system. There is a computer which tracks spinning rate for each of the wheels. If one wheel loses traction, it spins faster. So, this computer directs power among the wheels - from wheels with the least traction to wheels with most. If I put on wheels with a difference in thread of 3/16 - the computer goes NUTS because spinning rate is now different. So, if I have to replace a tire, I either have to shave a new tire to the thread specs of the other three, or buy all 4 new tires. YAY!
    Congrats on your new Tundra!

Sliding my 71 Chevy around and doing dumb shit when I was 16 is how I learned to drive in the snow and dirt. Find a place where you can go do some donuts or turn into some slides. Learn the feel of the truck and when it’s going to break loose by channeling your inner teenager and driving it like you stole it for a bit!

Tow haul ie the first step to “beast mode”
It gives better response and increased power. It changes the shift pattern to improve power while towing.
Turn off the traction control and LSD and turn on the tow haul then give it gas. Don’t do it if you’re having a hard time staying in control of the truck. It won’t help your loss of traction.

I can understand OP's confusion. The first time I tried to climb my driveway with a little snow in stock form the Truck fell flat on its face. My Tacoma , granted with meaty tires, would climb up in most reasonable cases, in 2WD. As some have said the Tundra is powerful, heavy an no locking diff or real LSD. I wasn't impressed with it in snow conditions either.. I've driven everything from FWD , RWD , AWD an other 4x4s.. out of all my 4x4 this truck was probably the worsted. I got stuck a few times even in 4x4 an couldn't make it. My wife's Highlander would crawl right up, pretty sad when my wife's grocery getter has snow mode, locking AWD center diff , hill decent ect an my "off road " Tundra has none of that but some cheesy whatever the frig they call it for a "limited slip" brake BS.. Some may disagree but let's not sh&t all over the OP for asking why it sucks so bad ..In comparison to alot of vehicles it kinda does...Not saying with some practice an some add ons it can't be improved. Some weight in back an decent tires goes a long way..

Tundra is made more for towing/hauling not off-roading. The Tacoma, 4runner and even the Highlander are small SUV’s and light trucks made to handle offroad conditions better. Try 4lo when in those positions. My tundra has suprised me a few times in 4lo it becomes a crawling beast.

I think weight distribution, tires AND wheelbase makes the biggest differences imo. My wife's SUV on KO2s is a snowmobile compared to my truck in 4x4. Driving style/experience does make a sizable difference also.

Put good tires on it and some sandbags in the back. I rarely use 4WD even in the snow. Learn to feel the truck and turn it on when you start to slip.

Ive driven a lot of brands of pickups and the tundra does very well in the snow.

A lot of dealerships toss out owners manuals. Sometimes people put their names etc inside and documentation for services, so they just toss them out. Weird.

We didn't have much snow in North Mississippi where I grew up, but we had our annual ice storm. There was just enough snow covering to give a little traction. We would go to the parking lot of the junior college coliseum and play on the ice with our 2WD vehicles (front wheel drive was the most fun).

And some used dealers will only give you one key/fob even when they received all the originals. At $250-400 per fob to replace, that is just robbery!

I know this because I was able to contact the previous owner of my daughter's Camry. She said that she gave the two keys (with built in fobs) AND the valet key to the dealership when she traded it in. We only received one key/fob. The dealer just downright lied when we confronted them about it.

When I worked for Toyota, tossing owners manuals was on the checklist.

Why not put in a new one? Money. Simple as that. Cheap Bastards..lol

My brother purchased a used Subaru down in CO, and had me close the deal. One fob you say...no deal. :D

    They won’t lose a deal for a fob...usually.

I’d like to say I’m surprised, but then I’d be lying.

I can’t be lying man, gotta get on Santy’s good list.....probably a little late in the year to be that hopeful :oops::eek2:

Yep, I bought the ex a Jeep. Dealer said previous owner was bringing extra key and FOB by and they would mail to me. I said fine but what if they don't. I got an agreement in writing that they would take it to Jeep dealer next door to make a new set. A week later I get key and fob in mail.

Not on the ice. FWD just gave a little more control on what direction we were going! However, I do agree that on all other surfaces, RWD is much more fun!

I feel like the Tundra does just as well, if not better, than any 4x4 truck I've had - one of each from the Big 3. It's just something you have to get used to and understand. Seems like OP is working on understanding it.

I bought my wife's Highlander for this exact reason. It is what Toyota calls "4x4" but what I would call AWD. No buttons or switches at all for 4wd. Does whatever it needs automagically. It does have downhill acceleration control, which I hope is useless for her, and snow mode, which is essentially the opposite of two haul - it just makes the gas pedal less sensitive. I do encourage her to use that...

Well of course the Highlander isn't a 4x4. It's a Camry with a minivan body.

Nope. It's a different platform. The Rav-4 is built on the Camry platform.
