l live in MN. Tint law is 50% for driver and passenger window. I am going to go 5% on the access cab windows (no one will be back there as I am going to remove the rear cramped seats and put a giant pelican case mounted in that space to fill with recovery gear (expensive goods, want dark tint to keep prying eyes out). Here is my primary question:

How dark would you go on the rear window(non-sliding)? I want darker than 50 but not 5. I want to be able to still see out of it at night or on a cloudy day when backing up. 20, 25 or 30% tint?

I say go with 20 for your needs. It will help with the privacy and you can still see at night.

I wish I could remember what percentage I went on my windows. Although it looks awesome and back then I had expensive tools to hide in my truck, I do regret going this dark. It sucks to drive at night, something I tend to forget about until I drive other cars at night.

I want to say I went 30 or 20 in the front doors and same for back doors and rears, but the back doors and rears were darker from the factory so they came out like 5%. You can't see a damn thing looking in those from the outside and at night looking put is almost worthless.

I've tinted the windows on every vehicle I've ever owned(6). You don't have an option for my suggestion but I really think 15% is the best for the driver and passenger windows. I have 5% on the front windows of my Tundra and it's too dark.

For the rear window 20 might be perfect. I wouldn't go any lighter.

This. I find 20% to be the sweet spot. Now if I was 15 years younger I'd say 5%

Oh it's terrible at night and even on cloudy days can be tough. I made an appointment for 15% and when I got there they were "out". Convinced me to go 5%. Big mistake. It's sexy looking and NO ONE can see me. I pick my nose in privacy but it's not worth it.

I have 5% all around and I love it on hot sunny days but night time is awful. Now that I have the topper I can’t see anything anyways. I think 20 is the sweet spot.

The only reason I commented was that I just recently bought a 2020 Tundra and I want to have the front side windows tinted. I can't find anyone who will go less than 35% due to the law in Idaho. Amazing to me you found someone who would do it professionally to 5%.

What % are you going on the front windows? You're only asking about the back window right?

Must vary by state. The window tint law is rarely enforced here. Everyone seems to run illegal tint. I got stopped for my window tint once around 0100 but they cop was really just fishing for a DUI. He let me go without a ticket.

Correct, everything behind the driver seat is fair game for any level in my state. I will be going 50% up front due to my state laws. Did extensive research... (google ;))

Dug these up of mine. 20% front only. Rear windows are stock. Almost a perfect match to factory!

Around here they forge the receipt to say a legal percentage. On my truck they even didnt list doing the front windows on the invoice.

Here are my truck windows with the sun behind it, pretty sure the fronts are 20 and at night it sucks.
    20200517_095649.jpg

On my daily driver I went quite a bit lighter, if I could rewind 10 years I would have gone with this on my truck. I went with a 3M ceramic tint and although it was about $60 more than standard tint it does the job keeping heat out (without being dark). I think this was 40, these windows have a blue anti-glare tint from the factory.

18% all the way around. Added to the privacy glass in the back it makes it 5%. Legal here is 35% I think but I’ve had tinted windows my whole driving life and always just roll the window down immediately when being pulled over. Never had a problem.

I know you didn't ask, but I think you will regret 50% up front. It's so light it's about useless and won't match the rest of the windows at all. I understand wanting to be legal but I wonder how strict they are.

I just had my guy match my back windows (20%). Maine law is 35%, ive never been pestered about it either here or wherever I was forced to live while in the military.. Have got an inspection sticker every year no prob but if I ever cant, it peels off so whatever. Have run 20% on all of my vehicles since around 2009.

In GA it's mainly state troopers that i have heard being the issue, but never experienced myself. A few cops with too little to do have given tickets to people i know for having 20% (35% legal here) and i know one guy who had limo tint but he got in trouble because he was an idiot and tinted his windshield as well. It was sooo dark.

Overall, the UV protection and reduced heat are worth the risk for me. And i just drop the window once i see flashing lights, never had any issues as long as they can see my face in the mirror.

Use ceramic tint (blocks out UV Rays) in whichever darkness you choose. Makes a huge difference in the summer. They even make a clear film with the same heat reflection abilities. Costs more but well worth it.

My goal was to have my fronts match my AC windows, and I went with 30% and it’s too light. I’d do 20% if I was doing it over.

For the rear window, 30% is probably fine.

Yes and 50% is almost useless honestly. You and the OP are both in MN, have you heard of cops being strict with window tint?
