Got money back from Uncle Sam. Gave it to Uncle Lowes for a new electric pressure washer. Easy peasy :)

Whatever it's spent on , at least half of it will be wasted through corruption or unnecessary management. That's if it is not completely blown on studying sexual preferences of Amazon lizards or something equally important.

I am a teacher. PEIA, our state employee insurance, has increased premiums a ton for the upcoming year. For some, it amounts to over $200 less per month. We are already making tens of thousands less than surrounding states in salary, and now they are reaming us of our benefits. They are trying to remove seniority in the hiring and transferring process and instituting some program that we must complete for our insurance or the rates go even hire. Deductibles are also increasing. None of us start teaching because of the pay, but it is insane to make as little as we do with a bachelor's degree and also have terrible insurance. It's been a gradual decline in benefits and no pay raise in years to even amount to annual inflation rate. Basically, our pay and benefits have been declining for years, and we aren't going to take it any more.

I don't blame you a bit. My Grandmother was a school teacher and she had to endure similar hardships. Have you ever considered teaching at a private school. That is what my grandma did after taking the Public school systems abuse for 20 years. The salary and benefits were much better.

Paying for our 6 month auto policy. No fun purchases for now as any extra cash goes towards the truck loan and getting ready for a kid

The local private schools make less than I do. And I will switch careers before I move away from my family.

My family is full of teachers - my dad taught for 35 years. Teachers get screwed - you make no real money and have to raise other people's kids b/c they don't want to do it.
Thank you Sir for your services - the children are our future; and that scares the hell out me.
    Best of luck!

Alex you a teacher in ID, very bad state to be a teacher. I remember when ID country wouldn't pass 1% increase in tax for teachers. Didn't pass it was real sad. I don't blame you for striking, some school districts need to wake up. And Yes thank you for your service to future of our country.
Different note I spent my tax refund on ARE CX topper. Ordered it with Yakima rails and sliding flip up windows. Alex you like your CX topper? Now trying to decide if I want step rails or rock sliders and which slider to go with.

That's how to stay in power.... Don't educate the populace. I'm ashamed we, as a nation, don't place greater value on our teachers. :hattip: Thank you.

That is the feeling we are starting to get here. Keep them dumb, so they continue to be unaware as they give millions in tax cuts to non-renewable energy instead of doing what's best for the people. WV is somewhere in the ballpark of 48th in average teacher salary and 5th in legislator salary.

I'm in WV. They claim our average teacher salary is near $45k. I would be thrilled with that...I'm nowhere near that with 6 years experience and teaching high school math (which is hard to find teachers for these days). Granted, I can live on what I make because my wife makes a little more than I do, but with the rising cost of our insurance, I would be making less than I do now.

I like my topper. It was on the truck when I got it, but one of the main reasons I chose the truck I did. I've always wanted a topper, but never been able to convince my wife or myself to drop the money on one. Having it on the truck already makes less monetary difference, especially spread out over payments. It will be especially nice being able to pack it up when traveling with plenty of space.

That's insane. HS math teachers here make 50k on the low end in my city. Unless your cost of living is so low it makes up for it.

Therein lies the real issue. Most parents don't reinforce anything we do at home, at least the ones that complain about the education system. The majority of people that oppose us getting a raise (which isn't all that many) are the same people that give teachers problems in the classroom. They expect us to take a kid that cannot read in high school and turn them into a doctor or something. It's just impractical.

Adjusted for cost of living, I think we are still 44th-45th or so. I could make $10k+ more by crossing the border to any surrounding state. I just live centrally and don't want to move or drive that far.

    Underpayment of estimated tax.

Not really significant. If I were self-employed I would probably do the same.

Are you self employed? Guessing you live in CA or NY? Otherwise unless you own a LOT of property, it has been far and few between who will be getting tax increases.

Big problem in Illinois is that the state income and sales tax collected doesn't reach the school level at all. So everyone is stuck paying for their schools through real estate taxes. Also doesn't help that IL has by far the most amount of districts than any other state, meaning separate administration costs for areas which anywhere else is condensed. The teachers are not the issue.
