Today I’m working in the neighborhood where HCSO Deputy Sandeep Dhaliwal lives. A very somber tone around here, but it’s really cool to see all the blue ribbons around the trees and the yard signs that read “Love one another” also the deputy that sits out front of his house watching over his family. I’ll remember him as a Hero!

I’d read and seen so many reports about the good work he did for the community during Harvey and elsewhere over the last few years. He was a shining example of not only police officers, but human beings in general.

When I saw on the news he’d been killed it broke my heart.

I honestly don’t care much. My oldest daughter is in the Lumberjack Marching Band, and her little sister just started at SFA this year.

I’m pretty surprised that lady cop in Dallas got convicted of murder. She screwed up hugely, but I thought murder required premeditation?

Not according to the State in their plea to the jurors. Cringey trial for sure, I couldn't watch more than a few minutes at a time.

No doubt she needed to do time, but I can’t imagine it qualified as first degree murder.

Same here. I’m friends with one of his neighbors and learned that he at one time had a successful trucking company and left that to pursue law enforcement. That’s the definition of being selfless! To protect and serve.

Yeah, that surprised me a bit too.
I wasn't exactly pulling for either side, just looking for a fair verdict, and I don't know...

Wasn't she drunk? She shouldn't have had her sidearm, if so. Period.
How else do you mistake your apartment for someone else's and barge in and not go "oops, wrong place" when you see the inside?

She killed an innocent man in his own home. How is that not murder?

I'm not 100% on the details but o do have a degree in CJ and I once had my TCOLE basic peace officer license.
Let's think about this. If im not mistaken here...

Drunk lady enters someone else's home uninvated with a deadly weapon and kills someone.
    What charges could be filed?
    Public intoxication, burglary, murder.

Now I'll admit its been a long.time.since 2014 so I'm rusty. But there's no getting around her guilt. However I'm somewhat surprised they found her guilty. Only because juries tend to said with the police like 90% of these types of cases.

Ordered pizza from papa johns last night, took 3.5 hours! Some stores ran out of ingredients. Even tho they were slammed our pizzas were still hot fresh and delicious. I heard they’ve extended the promotion for Sandeep’s family for a few more days. Great thing they’re doing for the community

I hope I didn’t come across as defending her, or questioning her guilt. I absolutely am not. From information released, she was a racist piece of shit, and deserves whatever happens to her.

What I was questioning was it being determined to be actual murder. I’d thought that a murder charge required premeditation, or going out of your way to intentionally kill someone with no extenuating circumstances. I’d expected “negligent homicide”, “2nd degree murder”, “intoxication manslaughter”, or something along those lines.

After doing some research, it turns out I was ignorant to the laws here. I learned that none of those distinctions are made in Texas. We apparently only have capital murder, murder, and manslaughter. All have varying degrees of punishment. Based on this, the conviction was justified in my opinion. It wasn’t premeditated, so not Capital, and it wasn’t accidental, so not manslaughter.

Like I said, I wasn’t questioning guilt. My ignorance just caused me to be surprised by the verdict. I love and respect police officers, and I believe almost all of them are good people who do the right thing. I do believe they should be held accountable for their actions, and it looks like justice has been served in this case.

While that’s a hell of a long time to get pizza (I used to be a professional pizza delivery guy), it’s good to know that many people took advantage of their promotion.

Intoxication manslaughter is reserved for drunk driving deaths in this state and capitol murder is typically reserved for the slaying of a peace officer, fire fighter, EMS, magistrate (judge), or even teacher in their official capacity, as well as a child or the elderly.

Was it stated that she was intoxicated? If so, she was still in uniform and carrying her weapon. That’s incredibly negligent on her part.

Like I said, I'm not sure of the details, I'm going off my shitty memory of when I first heard about the case. But for some reason I was convinced she was drunk. Now I'm questioning it.
