They are god but from my experience have to be constantly reminded who is boss when children are around. My Cane Corso knew who was in charge and was protective to the point he would put his life down for his family.

Also, replace any door jam screws with 3” screws....they’re a lot stronger when a door is kicked and won’t give as easily

Remove any sidelights and glass from arms reach of your doorknobs on entrances

Replace front door with solid wood or steel door

One thing I added was a security door. It gives you a barrier between you and whoever comes to your door. Bought at home depot. You need to measure the opening and find one with same width. I also added Ring doorbell. It charges thru your doorbell power.

“Side lights” are the windows in the side(s) of an entry door. A poor choice for security. The glass is easily broken, and the door jamb is also not terribly robust.

I use a combination of Ring, Nest and a stand alone Samsung system. For the Ring I have the doorbell/camera and the floodlight/motion sensor that has a siren you can activate from your phone. Both the Ring and Nest you can add on where it saves the video for 30 days for $30./yr. and both have pretty good resolution (1080p). The Samsung system is a bit more pricy but is a multi camera system and is completely self contained with its own hard drive, 5HD resolution and can be viewed on line. And all three systems have night vision.

These can be found at locally and usually come with 3' screws. They add strength to the door jam as well.

    Some stuff
you can add me as another fan of the ring stuff. cameras have got great resolution, even at night, and the sensitivity for motion is configurable. the one in my backyard is hard wired. i replaced an existing flood light which was tied to a switch in the garage. only trick is keeping the girls from turning it off when they go in the garage. sometimes they hit the wrong one but it's now taped over. service is great. app works well too.

Just dont get the arlo systems. I've got the 5 camera gen 1 non-pro cameras and they are garbage. I installed a wired camera system in our previous house, and it was great, but took me and my dad 2 full days to install. Not fun. The arlo took about 45min, but the quality sucks, they only record when it sees motion (which is hit or miss) and the batteries are expensive.
    Go wired.

Install as much bright lighting as you can afford, cockroach's(bad guys) don't like bright lights or get you some guinea hens as they are spooked at anything and make a god awful racket when spooked.
