I can't believe I didn't think of this myself. I made knives for years, have a ton of high carbon steel and know how hard it is to cut the stuff once hardened. It's definitely easier than the crazy idea I came up with using wire rope and barbed wire to deter messing with it. Thanks for the post!!

That's not a bad idea and sounds like it worked out well. I'll have to crawl under mine again and possibly look at doing a similar setup.
I was thinking a piece of flat bar with a short 90 degree bend on both sides that would saddle the crossmember. Drill a hole through the center then tack a nut on the top that will accept whatever security bolt setup I decide on. I found the distance between one of the rear cats and crossmember pretty tight and will take another look when the rain lets up (hopefully before spring!).

I might have done it differently if I had easy access to a welder.

I found a picture of some of my original hardware. I did cut the Eye-bolt short and used a thick fender washer between the coupler and the plate.
You can see my homemade “nuts” for the rectangular hole in the side of the frame.
The set on the right is a regular bolt and spacer for the front of the front plate.

After a negative experience with Valhalla's, I was forced to build my own for an upcoming trip. I built this for my 2018 Tundra from $200 supplies from HomeDepot:

The supplies included a rivet gun where I added rivets to the angle sections that were also attached with bolts.

HomeDepot was the only store with the 3x3 Aluminum Diamond Shield.

Let me know if you need any dimensions. I used long vice grips to do the two bends. I would have liked about two more inches on each side, so I may also do a steel build and powder coat from local vendors, but this helped me sleep better during my trip up to Dallas.

Very nice! Dimensions would be great. Interested in doing this myself

This is a old post, but you are still active.

See you already made a plate, but for future projects check our Morris Scrap at 5706 Old Spanish Trail, Houston, TX 77023

When I was a hobbyist I would always go there for a random sheet of aluminum. He won't really entertain you if you call on the phone looking for something specific, but was always cool with me walking around looking for stuff.

I still have stuff from him kicking around my garage at home :p.
