I need a commercial microwave. The one in my kitchen is shot. Kids are rough on it.

(I’m joking…except the microwave in my kitchen is shot.)

Probably a west coast thing. Every house i've seen or lived in has had the breaker on the outside of the house.

Thanks fellas! I got it back up and running. Went to home depot and got the last AFGI/GFCI on the shelf (home depot was DEAD inside....everyone must be hung over still).
It felt like the scene from the movie Entrapment with dodging the laser beams trying to get that white wire into the bus bar without touching any thick wires, but i doubled up on the condoms and had my mother on speed dial and got it done. :)

Huh, I know you guys have been under drought conditions since the year dot but this thread highlights exactly the reason why most citizens of first world nations like to keep their sensitive sparky stuff away from inclement weather. I thought Cali was renowned for being over cautious when it comes to stuff that might harm it's folk, everything I buy seems to have a warning that California thinks it's going to kill me.

My last trip to Germany I was checking out the transformers inside residents homes. The wife and I were a little shocked (but not literally). :D

My folks lived in Los Angeles and Sacramento. Every house had the breaker panel at the service on the outside of the house. Here in SC the breaker panels are in the mud room or laundry room. My house in AZ had it in the garage.

@Danimal86 personally, I'd take all those arc fault breakers and replace them with regular breakers. They trip for no reason, and I've ran an arc to ground on the load side and nothing happened. All you'll have to do is kill the main, then take all the neutrals(white wires) off the breakers and land them on your neutral buss. Then just reland all the hots on the breakers. GTG. Also, don't forget to shut off the main. That's really important.

    Also, ELECTRIC PORN!

Oh, and those will be cutler hammer br series breakers. 15 or 20 amp depending on what you replace them with.

Our house was built in 69 and had a fuse box in a bedroom closet. When we had it rewired and swapped to a 200 amp service (from 60) they put the box outisde. The other choice was move to the other end of the house. No service panel allowed in occupied space. It has been through 2 hurricanes and never gotten wet inside. It also has a padlock on it.

When we bought our house in upstate NY back in 1990 they installed a new meter box and service panel (in basement). Woke up one spring morning to half the circuits having power. Ice on meter box started melting and ran down the flex conduit to the main breaker. It shorted befor the breaker and melted the main. Four hours and a new panel, and a good run of sealant on the meter box, and it was back up.

I have too many z-wave smart switches that require the neutral wire. I'd assume that the neutral would no longer be active at each switch box if i do that switch?

Your switches won't know the difference, just make sure to land the neutral on the neutral bar.
Kill the breakers or the main like @bmf4069 said or you will get some pretty sparks lifting and landing the neutrals.

Well I said earlier in this thread I had a few “come to Jesus” moments in electrical work. Had another one tonight.

We were in the process of putting a generator online to the grid. Flashing the field, watching voltage come up and Bbbrrraaaapppp. Phase C arrestor blew and went to ground and caused quite the light show. 15000 amps worth. I had the guard shack that is 1.5 miles away call to see if emergency services were needed. He heard and seen that shit show. Our sister plant next door called since they seen the light show. It was spectacular in the worst way possible. Hopefully the transformer oil sample comes back good and all the protective relays did the job.

    E7BB98C7-4253-42B5-8FA6-0B045D3811E2.jpg 05AA1112-1D45-4468-AD45-10F8BD355A1C.jpg

This is the bottom of the arrestor and the arrow is pointing to the chunk of porcelain missing. The corona ring is damaged as well.

What a shit show. I have one unit down due to faulty steam piping on the boiler. That will be down until a 24” pipe x2 can be shipped and arrive. That will be another 8 day outage. Now this and the steam turbine generator is out of service. One GE Frame 7FA holding on in simple cycle. :eek2:
We couldn’t find 90 MW to buy on the real time market. Hope that wind and solar can keep us whole.

This is the area we support:

What a wild night, these are the things my wife doesn't want to know about. :D

Hope the XFMR oil sample comes back clean, that would be another hassle. Assuming you guys have Incipient gas monitoring, did that spike or throw any alarms?

Wasn’t even my day to be in. Go figure. I was called in for support and training the new guys. I’m thinking they got more than enough training for 2023. This comes to mind…

    3FABEEE8-6250-4174-ABB7-A26210A73A6D.jpg

We do and didn’t have any alarms…other than the 86 relays. The T&D/Substations crews wanted to test the oil anyway just in case.

One of the trainees now understands why we make a few calls on the radio to clear the area. I’ve put that generator online 300+ times and never had an issue…until we did.
