Too bad the Navy hasn't commissioned the F22s or F35s yet.

    Too many…scratch that…not done yet.
I used to work with a gentleman who was an actual F-14 pilot in the late 70's and 80's, and actually went to TopGun. His office had some pics and memorabilia like old patches. So imagine the surprise of a grown man, who as a kid damn near watched the VHS 'til it broke...
It was like I met Viper himself!

He did say some of the scenes were 'somewhat' realistic like the dog-fighting, but that was bc actual fighter pilots flew the jets for the movie. But the mental breakdowns by Cougar and Maverick and of course the insubordination....would never fly. (Pun not intended, but it works)

All that said...I can't wait for the new release! Now....Gotta go load some Kenny Loggins on my iPod!

Just read that Kenny Loggins is recording a new version of Danger Zone for the film. Hell yes. It’s not an 80’s movie without some Kenny Loggins in the soundtrack.

Don’t f**k up the soundtrack either! That was one of the aspects that made those movies great back in the day. Like the Danger Zone and all of the Rocky anthems! Great times!

I never served, but friends have told me if military movies were realistic, they’d be boring as hell.
One of them who is a gamer sent me these:

Some of the scenes with him in the cockpit look awesome. I can appreciate him for doing most of, if not all, his own stunts, but the man is bat shit. Plus to get to fly in a F-18 and do a carrier launch, who would pass that up.

He’s definitely weird, and I find myself not wanting to like his movies, but he’s honestly really good at what he does.

I always enjoy watching the flying scenes...some are realistic and some are pure Hollywood, but all are entertaining. ;)

The MI films are just nuts with some of the stuff he does in them. He definitely knows how to entertain.

Yep. Edge of Tomorrow was pretty good also. I mean, we’re all here talking about a movie he made thirty years ago, hoping they do it justice, so he must do something right.

Man that SOB cruise hasn't aged at all.

    To recap we have
    • Ed Harris, he's still a badass
    • Tom Cruise on his motorcycle, apparently the same one
    • close calls in tight mountain passes
    • reckless insubordination
    • aviator sunglasses
    • cheesy one liners

    I'm in!

Ditto. We thought it was total BS but it's a movie.

I know this won't be popular but I find Cruise's movies the same formula. He's the hottest whatever but he's "maverick" and doesn't play the game and in the end he's still the hottest whatever.
    Tiresome to me.

There are amazing stories about fighter pilots through out history, any one of those stories could be told but no, it's all about Cruise.
I'll take my beating now. :crapstorm:

Val Kilmer is on the cast list also. He’s definitely aged, and had a lot of work done.

Kelly McGillis, on the other hand....

    Yea, I am in too!

Thinking not really a remake but a part 2, 30ish years later.

Also thinking Kelly Mcgillis was not asked back, has not aged well. :puke:

They’re not afraid to hurt an actors feelings for sure. Poor Goose was the only one who had to keep his shirt on for the beach volleyball scene.
