New to the forum - former Tacoma guy now with a Tundy.

Just picked up my 04' w/ 260k on the clock. Previous owner had it since 05' and did routine maintenance as needed. I would never have bought a rig with that high of mileage unless it were a well taken care of Toyota. I expect it to go another 250k if I play my cards right.

I'm the original owner of my '02. Have 257k. Still going strong, and like the others, I hope to get another 250k out of her!

I just crossed 241k and the original transmission shifts very smoothly still... I tow regularly also, but always keep up with routine maintenance. I was very impressed after hearing these were the "bad" years.

Glad to see the first Gen.'s are this tough.
I'm looking to trade for the truck in my bio. 290,000 miles, most freeway miles, one owner. Well maintained and it shows. Evidently there was a recall, (?), on these as Toyota replaced the frame and suspension bits on their dime about 10,000 miles ago.
The high mileage report makes me happy.

My dad is still driving my first gen. 340k and still running strong. He uses it to tow and plow all the time. Thing is a beast.

I just got my 2000 from my buddy with 275,000 on it. It runs great, only issue is an intermittant vibration (whole truck vibrates) occassionally at 50-60mph. I'm thinking drive line carrier bearing. Any thoughts?

I drive an 02 with 184k, no problems yet. Have a buddy at church drives a 2000 with 318k. All he has replaced is the rear end. Also know a guy that has a 2000 with 480k! Original engine and tranny. No major issues. All these are 4x4. Great trucks, one of the best on the road.

Also to the guy asking about tranny problems, I spoke with a mechanic who knows these trucks well, 2wd tranny are much weaker and more likely to have issues. He says he can't recall ever seeing a 4x4 tranny go out in these trucks.

It's great to see so many folks with 250k+ and very few complaints/issues. I am quickly approaching 243k and it is a beast. If this one ever dies, I will be getting another first gen. for sure.

Toyota bought me a tranny at 35k...the moral of the story, don't tow in OD! Have over 100k on the replacement with no issues...I always push the button when towing now!

I have 300k miles on my 2004 crew cab. But it's really more like 318k. When I bought the truck (with 6 miles) in 2004, I took it straight to the shop to get a suspension lift and new wheels. I put 17x10 alloy wheels with 35" BFGs. I've had 35" tires ever since. According to odometer calculations (because of bigger tires), you add 6% to your total miles driven. I never regeared the differential to accommodate for bigger wheels.

What size lift do you have? I have a 03 with 35s and a 6 inch lift. How many mph is your speedometer off? I did regear with 4.88 gears and I'm still off by 1.5 to 2mph on my speedometer.
