What kind of shocks did you go with?
and did you go with OEM ball joints upper and lower?

Looking at fxing up my 2000 Tundra SR5 4x4 with 312k Miles,
Runs good , got it with bad real wheel bearings and 1 seal leaking, Got that fixed.
Now want to fix the "floaty boat" feeling as the shocks are pretty worn.

New owner as of 2 weeks now, she’s sitting just under 230k today. Engine and tranny seem like they can double that easily. Replaced rear drum cylinder, and some minor things here and there, but other than that SOLID. I am hearing some light squeaking on right side as I drive sometimes, ball joint?

My squeaks all came from the front Lower Control Arms Bushings before having my front end rebuilt. Try spraying some PB Blast on one section/bushing/joint at a time for location purposes.

Just bought an 02' Tundra Limited (brand new frame) 4WD V8 TRD Off Road with 250K miles on it for $2,300. I had the timing belt, water pump and valve cover gaskets replaced and it runs like a champ. Also had to replace the access window clips ($20) because the kid I bought it from had the windows duct taped shut :(. Still have to change out the front brakes and rotors but I feel like I stole this truck.

Had a 12' Tacoma before that but didn't want the payments.

Awesome deal! Same car essentially, beat me by $700!

Depends on how rough they are treated. I’d guess 100k miles on a regularly driven truck. Less miles if abused. They go when you least expect.

Just wondering have you or not serviced the transmission? It likely was not serviced before you bought it with that low mileage. My 2006 has 162k and never had the transmission serviced. Many of us think its best to never flush of change the t fluid. Others think the opposite

I'm trying to write this in a way that doesn't come across as confrontational -- forgive me if I miss the mark.

You and others are welcome to believe whatever you wish. And I respect your right to do so.

But let's be perfectly clear: there is absolutely zero evidence to suggest it's best to never change transmission fluid. Every physical, chemical, and engineering principle accepted by modern science indicates the contrary. I cannot think of a single scenario where it would not be beneficial to periodically refresh fluids used for lubrication and/or as hydraulic media.

You are probably on good grounds with your opinion. I just know that I had a t failure after changing the fluid in a car with high mileage and the old gent at the repair shop with many years in the t repair business told me that changing the fluid on a high mileage t can cause failure. He recommended not to change or add to prolong life of t. The reason I posted is to get input from others. I am open to change my mind and get my fluid changed asap. Others opinion is desired. Thank you for yours.

Yes, i had the transmission fluids changed a couple times while i owned the truck. Was not a pump everything out and all new, it was drop the pan and replace what came out. I did that at least once a year.

    Good explanation.

I would say to those hesitant to ‘flush’ their system that they just do some drain and fills spread out over time. This will ease them into getting things right.

Transmission went out at 54,500 miles.luckly still under warranty.planetary gear bearings came apart.Toyota replaced with new transmission.still shifts great! Starter, alternator, coils are all original.I have replaced the rear end.last year.370,000 miles on original. Also replaced the rack and pinion.I repair and maintenance everything like it should be.tie rods, ball joints brake calipers,etc... For a 20 year old truck,I can't complain! Over the years I have raced the truck, overloaded it many times and taken long trips and it has never failed! When it was new it was the fastest normally aspirated trucks around!
