Hello, I'm "old" and can't see great when dark and rainy. Any suggestions for updating the lights? Can this be done with "lightbulb kit"? The Gulfsream 550 I fly for a living just got upgraded to HID lights for landing and taxi. Huge difference.

    Thanks!
    Johan

Generally not a great idea to run HIDs without projector headlights cause it throws the lights everywhere and blinds people.

Thank you! I'll have to save up for some projector lights.

You can buy a pair of retrofitted headlights, which are specifically for HID bulbs. The light output (and looks) is great IMHO. I retrofitted mine myself but it was pretty involved.

A lot of aftermarket projector headlights are halogen projectors, so they will scatter light from HID bulbs all over.

Another option which MAY be a possibility is upgrading to the 2018 Tundra headlights. I'm not sure if it will be an easy switch or how much they will cost, but they look like rear facing LED, which are typically pretty bright.

Hello, i have thread on here where i replaced my bulbs with LEDs. This will probally stary a conversation on which is better. My 2 cents are that i like them. They light up the road nicely. Have not been flashed by on coming traffic. When it rains, lights up the sripping nicley and accents the road signs. Only disappointment i have are the hiigh beams. Lacking in that area. But overall happy with the setup. Just orderd the same bulb for my foglights. Check out my thread with pictures on here somewhere. Search for LED Headlights and it should come up. Nice airplane, i do not fly but was/am still an A&P mechanic. Went to IT a few years back, but still love aviation.

@SDNY Thank you. Will check it out. Gulfstream just STC'd HID lights. Upgrading a fleet of 3 cost more than my new Tundra

I now have two vehicles with HIDs. They are bright and get flashed all the time. I usually show them the high beams and let the incoming traffic know it actually does get worse. Lol.

If you're getting flashed all the time, then something is wrong. Blinding other drivers is not something to LOL about.

Nothing I can do about it. They are just really bright. I also don't like them.

Personally, for me I can't see better with them at all. I either have to angle them down to beam 10' in front of me or adjust them up so I can see.

Yes if your lifted its more difficult to find the right balance for the cutoff. Myou cutoff goes above other drivers eyes only when they are within about 25 feet from me if they are in smaller cars. By then they are looking past me up the road

This is a factory GMC 3500 and a Lexus IS350. I may have misspoke a bit, if I get flashed once, maybe twice a month. I have only been flashed on the GMC once, and in my opinion, I can't see as well from that vehicle. Of course it is designed to be loaded, so that could be the reason my opinion on these headlights is what it is. Maybe after towing a load at night this might get revised.

I may have to look into the LED solution that AnonVet was asking about.

The one thing that is consistent is when flashed, it is always in a dark neighborhood, never on the highway. Might be someone sensitive to light or doesn't have anti-glare lenses in prescription glasses. Before I added that nice little feature to my glasses, I was always flashing people and thought the lights were on high beam.

Once they are out it's only a matter of time until we find out if/how we can swap and what the cost will be. @Roman will be all over it I'm sure.

You put a Jolly Rancher in the Zima bottle and the Zima tastes a bit like the Jolly Rancher. Something girls would do to their drinks.
