Hi, I'm Gary. I have been a long time Toyota owner. First one was a new '03 4Runner SR5 V6. I liked it a lot, but wanted a V8 for the extra towing capacity, so, in 2013, I picked up another '03 Limited V8 from a friend and sold the V6. Kept the Limited until last fall, when because of extensive frame rust, it would no longer pass safety inspection. It had 287k on it, so the only practical thing was to look for a new ride. I was using my wifes '02 BMW X5 as my daily driver, but at it's age, it was beginning to have one electrical problem after another, so it was time to say bye to both. I stumbled on an '08 Tundra SR5 DC w/5.7 in white. It was in really good shape. One owner, and he must have kept it in garage, because it was just about spotless, inside and out. Only 115k, and it rode like a new truck (at least to me it did) so I traded the 4Runner and BMW in on it, and picked it up in November, just before thanksgiving.

So far, I am very happy with it. (well except for the gas mileage ;-) ) It's been a while since I had a Pickup (last one was a '79 Chevy K10 short bed 4WD), so it took a bit of getting used to the extra length while parking, and how light the rear end is when it gets slick. I guess I got a bit lazy with the AWD systems on the 4Runners and BMW, so relearning a real 4WD system has been fun.

Anyway, enough about the Tundra, for now.

About me; I am retired, since '09, from the USPS. I have been involved in mechanics, of one sort or another since I was old enough to hold a wrench. I did a stint in the Army in the early 70's. After I got out, I went to work in my uncles Transmission shop in Brooklyn NY. He taught me all he knew, and I learned the rest on my own. Basically I ran his shop for several years, but my wife and I wanted to get out of LI, so in '78 we moved upstate NY. I continued with Transmission rebuilding for another 3 years, then moved to a Honda dealership as a line mechanic. Did that for another 3 years, but needed better long term security, so I got a job with the USPS in "84. Spent the next 25 years with them, most of the time as a Machine Mechanic and then finished up as a Maintenance Supervisor until I retired. I continued to work in various PT jobs (just to get out of the house a few days a week), until we decided we had to get out of NYS. Found a fix'r upper in NEPA, and in January 2018 we moved there. We both loved the peace and quiet in PA, and not being in NY.

I know this has been a bit of a long, rambling 1st post, but that's what us old guys sometimes do. Anyway, I am glad I found this forum, and I hope to, over time learn more about my Tundra, and maybe even help someone out a time or two.

Thanks for letting me join in.
