Wonder if the wire supplied power to the cigarette lighter when key is/was off?

Here's a pic of mine. I think I have it marked consistently with yours. The green is the DRL connector (disconnected). The red is what you have only one side of. Does that seem right?DRL Plug+.jpg

Tow package option? Maybe for power to charge trailer through plug?

That small wire can be numerous things. Need to trace it down. I’ve seen aftermarket alarms with that wire and aftermarket tow trailer converters...

Take the wire and ohm it out to ground. That'll at least tell you if its shorted or over-amping. Whatever it is.

Yes, that is right. I believe that is the connector that the OP's mystery wire is going to. I have both sides of the connector but where a wire would go there is just a rubber plug.

I dig the music and I’ve heard them on Sirius Xm Jam-On. But I haven’t been exposed to them a lot. Don’t know much about the band other than killer mountain driving music with the sunroof open.

    True!

It’s really a lost genre - Dead, phish, string cheese. I can almost guarantee my kids will never just sit and listen to a long jam. It’s all about rap to them. Sorry I Highjacked the thread!

Subaru are known to need this as well. At least on my old 2008 Forester sport. After disconnecting the battery , I had to let it idle for a while, the ECU needs to relearn. And also relearn my driving habits.

yeah, guess it shows my age but I’ve seen all of the ones you listed. Some Leftover Salmon as well.
Probably 30 Dead shows under my belt before Jerry kicked it and 50+ Phish shows.

That wire is something that was added. You know one thing added was a trailer hitch. My guess is the wire was for a trailer brake controller.

To add. Just delete that wire to the plug to clean it up. You know it is something that the truck did not have from the factory. And the wire in the harness is for some reason or option you dont have.

Some owner must have removed something they installed and just cut the wire at the end. And it has shorted out so the fuse blew.

If bored you could look under the dash to see if someone drilled some mounting holes. And looks like something was removed.

Some electronic trailer brake controllers needed constant 12 volts so that still a possibility.
And I recently replaced my OEM trailer hitch. And noticed around the trailer hitch there was a similar OEM plug back there that had a OEM cap in the plug. Not something I needed for standard trailer lights. So did not care what it was for.
It is at least a possibility that you may even find this is the other end of the wire you are dealing with.

I remember the first time this happened to me. I don’t remember what made me think ‘when in doubt, throttle out!’ and that’s exactly what I did and it cured itself. Sorry I was in the mountains this weekend otherwise I could have jumped in sooner. Glad one of the other guys were able to jump in and help you out! Nothing feels better than getting back on the road!

I will say up in the mountains this weekend, I saw a TON of first gens and not one Tacoma. I think that’s where they all go to retire.
