Just an update. After my first drop off with most of the reservoir being empty. Two Toyota mechanics stated they could find no leak anywhere under the truck it was "bone dry". So they topped off the power steering and sent me home. Blue berthas been sitting some with the holidays and losing my job, however about 3-4 weeks later While driving around I heard the same noises as before. Pulled over and was almost empty again. I took pictures again and sent them to the assistant manager and within 3 minutes had a reply saying bring it in. An hour later I get a call they've ordered a new rack and pinion as the seal was indeed broken in some way. Truck is to be finished tomorrow afternoon so we'll see how it goes. All warranty, however I have a 2020 but the service manager said it's not uncommon for the list of Vins and years to increase after a recall is first announced.

How many miles on your truck? Any warning signs of this before it happened or was it sudden without any warning?

I'm currently sitting at 21,631 miles and this started a couple hundred miles ago. The only warning signs I had were some increased vibrations in the wheel the wheel getting a little heavier to turn, not returning to center as fast but the biggest sound was as if there was some amount of slippage or rustling or popping when turning the wheel and accelerating. These came over a period of roughly 5 days to a week and I thought could of been caused by some stuck plastic under front of the truck. Once I removed the plastic the noise stopped temporarily but returned a few days later. The tell tale sign was when I popped the hood and thought that's some clear power steering fluid in there. Until I realized there was very little.

Maybe I should swing by the dealer and ask for a case or two of PS fluid N/C. Just in case mine starts this crap.

Keep filling and then it will probably just blow out the boot and make a huge mess. I wonder if temporarily they could install some in line pressure regulator coming out of the pump?

So my 2021 built in October was held at the Port till early November for "Steering Column Parts". I wonder if they were waiting for bad parts or the replacement parts that the recall will take care of?

I haven't been notified of a recall the App and Toyota recall website says I have none. Maybe they held it at the Port for better parts of the fix?

My power steering quite working yesterday on me while backing out of a parking spot. Called the local dealership and gave them a heads up. They said there was a recall out with no identified fix currently. I limped it there for them to diagnose and this morning I got a phone call letting me know they got me a rental. Still no fix but at least I have a car to drive paid for by Toyota. We shall see how long this takes to identify a fix.

1800 for me and I no longer trust it enough to venture far from home...disappointed in Toyota's handling of this...but hey at least it's not a runaway throttle...

I already ventured 1,000 miles from home for the winter before getting wind of this. Pulled travel trailer down here too.

Sounds like the source that cuts the groves has 4 machines doing the cutting and there was a bit failure on one of the machines causing this problem.
You have a 1 in 4 chance of being just fine.
I sincerely hope you are one of the lucky ones...hopefully you'll get in and inspected by the end of Feb and if needs be fixed up shortly after and then ready to head back north in spring?

I'll be on the Gulf until April 1st so there's some time there. Someday there will be a case study of this fiasco showing how not to do inspections and QC. I'm shocked that 5,500 units could be produced before it was caught. Also betting if Toyota hadn't found the problem and reacted as they didthere would have been many more bad racks.

So now we are finding out the OP had a 25% chance of getting another bad rack installed to replace the first bad rack.

Mine also has a 10/21 build date and I'm not seeing any recalls on it in the app/website either. Hoping that continues to be the case

The talk about driving the cars with the PS inop anuses me for two reasons: First, there is a huge difference in effort required to control a vehicle designed with manual steering and one with a failed PS system. Second is how long will the PS pump last without lubrication? Lock that pulley up and all sorts of nasty things can happen. It's almost as if Toyota is blowing this thing off a little bit.

Yep...it's either dangerous to drive it and have it go out while you are or it's not...can't be both....
They don't have a fix so I can't drive mine/won't drive mine...but still have to make payments on it...

Today I ran the vin on a 2021 TRD Pro Lunar Rock CM with low miles I was thinking about possibly purchasing from a Jeep/Ram dealer only to find two open recalls after running the VIN on the link below.
Bummed to say the least as I liked the truck and but am going to totally pass on the purchase. I honestly just can’t make an offer on a truck with (2) recalls open.
I hope anyone impacted by this gets their truck fixed quickly by Toyota.

Power steering and headlight assembly recalls see link-

Where was this gem found? if you don't mind my asking?
Get the power steering looked at (ya got a 75% chance of that being a nothing burger) and the wiring changed out on Toyota's dime...and you got a TRD PRO Lunar Rock...a grail truck my man...a grail truck...:)

Isn't this the recall. They said they are going to start sending them out in January
