Friends rear hatch would not open so we replaced all three parts - the handle, the cable, and the latching mechanism (with a new actuator). The hatch would open and close just fine but would not lock. So I took the original latch mechanism and put the new actuator on it. This time the door locked and now will not unlock. This happened previously and after trying everyway to get it open for 2.5 hours it just randomly unlocked and opened.

If we disconnect the actuator and the wires going to the latch we can open and close it just fine but not lock it. Currently hatch is locked, will not unlock, and I am unable to open the hatch. I am also unable to disconnect the harness going to the actuator.

I checked every fuse I can find that is related to locking and they all are fine. Any ideas on what the next step should be our what could possibly be the problem. I can only assume it is something electrical or fuse related. On a side not the power ports do not work either but they were not working before the rear hatch issues.

Just spent the last 3 hours messing with it. I believe the electrical is fine. When the cable from the handle to the latch is not attached the lock/actuator works fine. But when the cable is attached to the handle the door will not lock. We tried 2 different cables, one Toyota, and neither works when connected. The handle is new and after market and works when opening the hatch. Just cant lock it with the cable connected to the handle. Any ideas? I dont see any way the cable can cause the issue but it appears to be.

Problem solved. In case anyone has a similar issue, the cable was too tight and I had to bend the bar that holds the cable at the latch (not the handle) about 1/8" closer (in) and that worked. Works like new now.
