We were enroute to solving the problem. With the LC6 ruled out, the amp was the only component left. Glad you got it resolved... and got to learn a few things!

Where was the wiring issue? I’m having a similar issue in my truck, where the left channel audio randomly fades in and out. This started out of nowhere about a week ago and it’s driving me nuts. I have a Kenwood DMX906S in my truck and the stock JBL amp and system. Thx!

It was all in the aftermarket Rockford Fosgate 4 channel amp. I replaced it with a mid level JL Audio amp and haven't had a hiccup since. Oh, I almost forgot that 1 of the RCA cables had some issues, too.

A huge thumbs up to TundraTex for helping me out. I was way over my head trying to diagnose the issue.

Thank you. I'm going to start by pulling everything out and checking the wiring harness connections behind the Kenwood. This is SOOO aggravating!

Best of luck to you. Don't forget to curse repeatedly. That's often my first step in diagnostics.

Yeah, I'm not looking forward to this. Seems like more than a loose wire, but we'll see.

My bet is on the JBL amp causing fits. Can you swap the R and L inputs going to the amp and see in the problem switches sides? If the cutting out moves it would suggest a HU signal issue and if not it suggests your amp is faulty.

I’m running the same HU and have experienced a handful of quirks but thankfully nothing this significant.

I'm not even sure where the stock JBL amp is mounted...is it under the driver's seat?

I don't have an aftermarket JBL amp...it's the stock JBL amp that came with the truck. Don't believe I can swap leads because everything is in a couple wiring harnesses connected to the amp.

I’m guessing you didn’t do the install? Do you know in the signal to the amp is coming from the high level speaker wire outputs from the HU harness or the low voltage RCA outputs on the back of the HU?

I did do the install of the Kenwood head unit. The Kenwood is tied into the truck using an iDataLink Maestro harness/module. I don't have anything else aftermarket...the rest of they system is the stock JBL system that came with the truck, including the amp and speakers. I am not utilizing the RCA outs of the Kenwood...all of that is speaker level through the stock JBL amp.

Gotcha. I’ve read the fade and balance on the JBL system is controlled by the amp not the OEM HU so it sounds like something weird could be going on with the amp.

like most audio threads, the real answer is to call/email James at Tech12volts and he will tell you how to straighten out your Tundra audio.

Thanks guys...hoping its not the OEM JBL amp. A used one is $300 and a new one from TRD Sparks is over $1,000...

I just swapped out the amp with another stock JBL amp (Thanks 81 TOY!) and the problem persists...the left channel audio intermittently cuts in and out. It's not a connection issue at the amp, because there are only three connections there and they are wiring harness connections that lock in place. I will try to pull the Kenwood out tomorrow and see if it is a loose connection behind the head unit, but the intermittent left channel audio cutout happened tonight while the truck was parked in the driveway...so it's not like anything was getting jarred or anything while driving. Anyone else have other ideas of where to check? Thanks!

Update...I pulled the Kenwood out yesterday and for lack of a better term, reorganized the wiring behind the head unit. So far so good and I haven't heard the left side cut out again. Not sure if something was grouding out, but hopefully it is solved.

Latest update…had all the connections redone including solder and this is still happening. I’ve even tried two different stock JBL amps. Now the sounds cuts out of the left side sometimes and sometimes on the right. You can hear it come and go. I’m at a loss…any ideas what is causing this?
