If the Land Cruiser has the same model number engine and trans (and compatible year) then any reason it won't work as a replacement?

I agree with others let us know where you're located. It sucks to miss out on a job and important income.

Also, when you're checking trans fluid level, should the engine be running? I don't know about 2006 models, but on my 2004 the engine must be running to check proper level otherwise it shows full/overfilled. Once the engine is running the trans fluid will get sucked into the system and you'll have a more accurate reading from the pan.

The Land Cruiser has a different transfer case (AWD vs 4WD), and of course a different harness and control module. 99.99% sure it won't work without substantial mods. It would be nice to have an AWD drive train in a Tundra, however.

Been there done that. '89 bronco tranny went on my way home from work. I drove in reverse, tried to use back streets but forgot that the sheriff station was on the one I needed to take. Drove in reverse past 2 very surprised officers in their patrol car, past the sheriff station, short stint on a major road and into a repair shop.

Dont listen to the folks with newer trucks. They cant fix em, so they replace em.

maybe put the truck in gear and 'gently' push it forwards and backwards, at least a full tire rotation to clear any air bubbles. Maybe try it with the truck running to prime the pump, but make sure someones inside ready to stomp the brakes before it tries to jump on top of you.

Now Fred, can I call you Fred, you know I have no part of this, and was commenting to someone about a way to let it go before more trouble followed. However, I do believe, anyone who's asking for help and snaps at ya hasn't learned all about manners and needs to check himself right then and there! Best to say AMF when the person gets bitchy at you while spending your time on him trying to help. In the affluent neighborhoods their called being obtuse or uncouth that's meant as an insult to end it then and there, on the other side of the tracks it goes from "what," to "better check yourself," to ?, or the frown with a calm "AMF, got better things to do."

Can't choose family but can choose the type of people one's around and who they're trying to help. On the second showing their butt and a prior warning, only family and good friends get the slid pass. :argue:

I wonder if there's been any progress with the OP's truck? He's gone a little radio silent the last few days.

What’s up guys? Been a long couple of days, went and jacked up the corner of a buddies cabin that was sinking, did some yard work, got real drunk, and finally got a code reader on the truck. Not as capable of a scanner as I would have liked but it did pull a couple codes. Let me take care of these crybaby haters real quick and I’ll get back to talking about trucks…

ok ladies. This is a forum who’s purpose is the discussion of Toyota tundras. How they are awesome, how they aren’t, how to fix them, how to not break them etc etc etc… of course I expected a little ball busting when I did what I did, and I got some. But the guys just busting my balls were also the guys who were the most helpful. What I didn’t expect was a bunch of petty, get their oil changed and tires rotated at a shop no callus having lames acting like they never forgot to put the drain plug back before adding new oil, got the battery terminals mixed up, got a nail in their friends old lady’s Jeep’s tire dicking around on a construction site or anything other bonehead moves that are bound to happen when a man does what you have obviously never done, which is to sack up and try to do something you’ve never done before because it needed to be done. That is a good mark of a man. An even better one is decided by what you do right after you screwed up whatever it is you screwed up. And even better, how you handle the response you receive from the guy you just talked shit to. Did I say I hope some guy got his converter stolen? Hell yeah. It was the funniest thing I could think of to say back to whatever not helpful dumbassery he said to me. Don’t dish out what you can’t eat yourself.

anyway, truck is throwing a p2714, solinoid D stuck off. I downloaded the service manual for the A750f, and between that and the tundra service manual I have some serious studying to do. I’m starting to think my tranny is smoked but I still will try to get some Toyota fluid and run a bunch through my tranny, do a filter change, and possibly replace that Solenoid if the flush don’t do it. I took a closed look at the old fluid. It’s dark but it don’t smell burnt and there aren’t any metal shavings in. Sucks the land cruiser tranny won’t work, that would have been super easy and cheap, and I could have trader work for it since I’m broke right now. What if I swapped the transfer case as well? An awd Frankentundrastien might be pretty sweet…

Replacing a solenoid should be possible without removing the valve body. Maybe it does need to be removed? I'm sure theres a how to. Anyone that needs 2 first gears prolly doesnt realise.

@OopsWrongFluid You’re on the right track. Probably time to drop the pan, see what’s in the bottom and on the magnets. Then pull solenoid valve D and look for any metal filings. Hopefully just some sludge stirred up and the pump didn’t start piling up and send metal to the valve body.

It's cheap to drop the pan and pull the solenoid to look for grit or something else that could hang it up.

So it took some doing but after pulling the pan and solenoid with a knowledgeable buddy my tranny is smoked. Can anyone recommend a reputable company to get a remanufactured transmission?

Well that blows. One thing, I doubt you’ll ever make that mistake again. Those hard-earned ones tend to remain in the memory.

What did you find when you pulled the pan and solenoid? Obvious metal?

Does anyone even rebuild transmissions anymore? Most of the time it seems to be more economical to buy a junkyard transmission.

Some shops will. But when you buy a new or reman transmission, they usually take your core to send off for rebuild for the next guy or gal.
