I agree with everyone about Toyota reliability and resale value. However, it does not need to be an “either, or” situation. There is plenty of technology and luxury in many Lexus vehicles. Yet they top the reliability surveys year after year.

Tundras don’t account for as much revenue for Toyota, so they are the last to get upgrades, redesigns, and “bells and whistles.” This can be a good thing, as hopefully the bugs will be fixed by then.

Arguing that “then there’s less stuff to break” means you would want to buy a truck with roll down windows and no ABS (amongst a lot of other things) to have the most reliable truck.

But please, let’s not give Toyota a pass on this. They can make reliable cars that can compete on technology, efficiency, comfort, power and ride quality.

They should do so for the Tundra. Don’t get me wrong, I still choose to have a Tundra for the reliability over the domestics. But Toyota is capable of delivering better with little trade off in reliability. Now it will cost us more...

I don't really have remorse you just can't expect anything fancy with the interior of a tundra

So to the OP.. first off welcome! 2nd...your on a tundra forum..we are def going to defend our reasoning for purchasing our toytas. That being said, I did EXACTLY what you did. I traded in a 2010 GMC Sierra SLT for my Tundra. Why? I was having trouble with the trans at 75k miles. I did Zero research. I was that guy lol. I told myself id buy ONE brand new vehicle in my lifetime, and everyone here has said it...Reliability. That's why I chose Toyota. That being said I didn't research packages or anything. I just bought based off what was available when I was ready to buy. Stupid? yes.... because I paid for some features that ive taken off the truck that probably costed me a lot of money... I knew I wanted leather. that was about it.. that being said, the only feature it didnt have that my gmc did, was remote start.. but that's truthfully not a deal breaker for me. I don't think your remorse is in the truck itself, more so in the pkg you chose. but don't let buyers remorse set in, had I known then, what I know now, I would have went with an sr5, and saved a lot of money. you have an open door to upgrades. use that to your advantage. drive the truck and enjoy it. the more time you spend in it, the more the quality becomes apparent.

I think the 1st Gens are better than the later Tundra models in many regards: Thicker sheet metal, higher payload, and a smaller size for manuverability to name a few. Technology is in my phone if needed.

Yeah the 1st Gens can’t tow the space shuttle, but thats ok.

Kevin Costner has one. Everybody knows he only makes good choices!
These Tundras, they are like Kevin Costner movies. If optioned a certain way, they are way too long, but still great (liken my DC with 8.1 foot bed to Dances with Wolves).
It sounds like you ended up with a Robin Hood, when looking for a Waterworld, or Field of Dreams.
Yet feel good, for Robin Hood was saved by Morgan Freeman. It just took time to realize it....
The hidden positive aspects of your truck are like Morgan Freeman in Robin Hood. Under appreciated at first, but, with time, it will grow on you.:rasta:

Now if you had bought a Ram, that would have been like Robin Hood, Men In Tights... fun, enjoyable, for a bit, but then you feel a bit immature for enjoying it, and hope nobody saw you doing so.:spy:

Once you put some miles on it and realize that is still drives new, then you will be happy. 36k for a new truck in today's market isn't that much. If you like to keep trucks until they aren't worth fixing, you won't need to buy another truck anytime soon. Toyota's hold their value better than any other company. Why do you think they are putting new frames on 10-11 year old trucks, rather than buying them and scrapping them. Don't get me wrong, I have looked at other brands. But Toyota is the best bet for the money. You can overlook a lot of things when you are not driving a money pit

I have been a chevyholic my whole life tree small and big blocks since I was 6 years old. Mechanic my whole life. Got hurt can't do what I used to. Wanted a truck I didn't have to fix. I bought a sequoia platinum2013. The best feature was it's ability to turn off the options no one else have that option. You will love the fact 50k down the road all you have done is brakes rotors wipers and fluids a 100k you will wonder why you still feel like you bought the same truck last week after you detail it. I always had stuff to fix on all my cars I check fluids and drive cross country. Its the Barbara Bush of trucks she will be there till the end and you will love her the whole time. No remorse!

This is very true. My Tundra doesn't have Traction Control, so I'm weighing it down with heavy concrete blocks in the 9ft bed to distribute the weight. I always look up the VIN now and look for traction control and vehicle stability control. Had no idea this was an optional feature even in 05 06 Tundras. The TC was optional back then. Crazy.

I have blind spot monitoring parking assist and cross traffic alert sr5. Or they come with power back window instead of bsm. Solid truck and simple. Everything does what it wants to do. Plus if it really bothers you you can upgrade stuff and do them yourself and oh half the price dealer would. Like suspension leather seats audio system. Love these trucks. And if I ever did sell it I’m not worried about the price I would get. It would be a good down payment on newer tundra

what sold me was my first Tundra I bought in 2014 was a 2013 that after one year the previous owner had put on 88,000 miles. I swear I got in it and it felt brand new. I had always heard good things about toyotas, in general, and I love land cruisers, but hadn't given much thought to the tundras until that day. don't want to jinx myself by saying I'll never buy another ford, gm or dodge, but I've had them all and i don't think I'll ever go back. the quality and longevity of these vehicles is unsurpassed. not to mention the customer service. I hope you come around.

My 2018 TRD Pro definitely isn't the coolest truck on the roads, especially compared to the Fords, Dodge and Chevys with all their accoutrements. But reliability was far more important to me than any of that junk.
I had 150k miles on my 2010 when I sold it to a friend, who drives up and down the I5 twice a month to pick up cars. To sell your used truck to a friend who you know is putting a lot of towing miles on it, shows that you truly believe in a manufacturer.

I had a 2016 Tacoma, it was in the shop 5 times in the two miserable years I owned it for unscheduled maintenance. Those trucks sell because of the reputation of the previous two generations of Tacoma. In my opinion, Consumer Reports is spot on. About the Tacoma and the Tundra.

Not much has changed from the 2nd gen to 3rd gen other than the engine and transmission (which seem to be the main source of owner complaints). The underlying chassis is pretty similar and very proven at this point...plenty of owners driving around in modded out Tacoma's that are at or over GVWR.

Loved my 2010 Tacoma, but after 8 years the light gray cloth of the SR5 trim was getting old, and I was starting to have specs of rust through the paint.

OP - resale may save you here. Drive your truck for a couple years and if you still aren’t satisfied, put it up for sale and get something else. You won’t take nearly as big a hit as if you were trying to get out of a 2018 Silverado.

welcome to tundra stone ages, it's how we roll around here. Roughly 5-10 years behind the times, and arguably less attractive than its more modern counterparts. But the good news is you wont have to fix the thing every 20,000 miles, or have it leave you stranded.

it sounds like you bought the wrong trim level for your tastes. bring that thing back, work out a deal on a platinum, and you wont have to go car shopping for a very long time (or for repairs). Skip the limited because its pretty bare bones too.

    I got mine because:
I get to drive it more often
I have a lot of friends with "other" trucks. The only other one that doesn't have his vehicle in for repairs constantly is the Tacoma guy. Before my '18 I had an '04 Tundra. In 14 years and 215,000 miles, the only repairs I had to make were a new alternator (10 yrs, 160,000 miles, $800) and an Oxygen sensor (13 years, 200,000 miles, $400). That's less than $100 per year!! I had a Chevy (SUV) before that and it was nothing but issues. Electrical, Engine/Cooling system, transmission... Always in the shop. The kicker is that a lot of my extended family are from Ohio and worked for Chevy for most of their lives. They were all upset when I got it, and even MORE upset when they saw how well it held up. All those new gadgets like cylinder deactivation, 10 speed trannies and dual turbo V-6s may get you better mileage, but your cost of ownership is still higher due to repairs. Other than the time I ran out of gas bc I mis-calculated how much towing a trailer would eat up fuel, I've never been stranded on the side of the road bc of my truck!! Can't say that about ANY of my previous vehicles.

    Great resale value
When I got my '18, I traded in my '04. Bought the '04 at $36,000 and got almost $6,000 trade in after 14 years and over 200k miles. My wife had a Mazda that was 8 years newer than mine (2011) and had less miles. Also paid more for it than I paid for my tundra ($40k 'ish). She was only offered $4,000 for hers.

Unless the buttons have changed from mine the seek feature is there, you just have to press and hold down one of the audio controls (left/right). It will seek to the next station that is not static, but it won't continue until you press it again.

    1) My wife's car uses the horn and I can't stand it. If she, or any of the kids are near the car when I lock it, they have a loud horn in their ears and then I get yelled at for making them deaf. When I get home late, I'm not waking up the neighbors when I lock my truck either. When I'm not sure if I locked from a distance, I look for the light flash, not the horn.

    2) I'm 5'10 and I can reach all the buttons. Maybe you have a longer torso and shorter arms/legs? You are a t-rex and I'm built like a giraffe?

    7) Footwell lighting? Are you talking about a light down by the gas pedals? There is one there on my '18 but it is really dim. Upgraded to LED for maybe $10 and way brighter.

You should just trade your Tundra and get back in a Chevy. Much better than Toyota.

    Curse you Perry the Platypus!
I traded in my 2013 GMC Sierra WT with 66,000 miles for a 2010 Tundra with 109,000 miles. Both models are 4 doors, 4x4, V8. I can tell the Toyota is a better made truck in every aspect and have no regrets! Trust me, you won't regret it!

Oil cooler. I can use my phone through the steering wheel. 4x4. Nannies. Manual mode shifting. Enough for me. Best vehicle I have ever owned. I get compliments all the time.
    Love yours. D

Sometimes I wish I had gotten a RAM instead due to the 13mpg stock I'm getting in my SR5. I have even been holding off putting on my new set of load range E Ridge Grapplers because of how it'll negatively effect the already poor mileage. Then I read these threads and think, "Oh yeah, I'm good. I made the right choice."

    Still rolling stock baby....
Everyone has buyers remorse at one time or another.

This is my third Tundra and honestly the one I like the most.

2016 SR5 TRD off road with a few TRD mods.

I have ad GM, Ford and Dodges, of which I was a loyal owner from 1994 to 2013.

Now I drive Toyota, ya my SR5 may be kind of bland, not have all the latest gizmos and such but its a great truck, and for me has just the right amount of what I need.
Of course I have added a few things like the TRD pro grill, hood bulge, TRD pro suspension, TRD exhaust, TRD shifter, 2019 TRD pro LED headlights, 2018 LED fogs and added KO2s..

Anyway I am keeping this inferno hottie for the long haul, buying out the lease in 2019. Unless theres a bad ass TRD pro sitting on the lot than I think I am in serious trouble..
