Please help me decide between 20” vs 18” rims. I’m pretty set on the black method NV (see picture). I realistically won’t be taking this vehicle off the road a ton, it is my daily driver and will be used to tow a boat occasionally. I’ll be installing some bilstein 5100’s at the same time i purchase the tires/rims. Pictures with tire sizes, your lift info, etc will be most helpful. Thanks to all!

Really depends on the look you are going for. Other brand trucks put 20" rims on their trucks these days, I'm not fond of the look. They resemble luxury vehicles and lose a bit of that rugged back country look. I went 18s and couldn't be happier.

My understanding is this: 20" rim will give you slightly better handling due to less sidewall (truck is running on more solid rim than flexible tire), but you'll get a harsher feeling ride because of this.

18" for me, more side wall = smoother ride.

This is also why I went with 18's.

Going with 20" your tires will probably cost more. And agree with the other opinions on ride comfort, it will be better on a smaller wheel with more sidewall.

18” tires cost just as much as 20” tires of the same size. Sometimes the 18s are more expensive due to more rubber to make the tire. So that argument is null. My 20s with 295/55s ride great. I live in the swamp so my off-roading will never be hard terrain that would warrant more sidewall.

20” 10 ply side wall 33” Michelin defenders...rides smoother than a limo, never changing this set up. @ $320 a tire they better ride nice.

18" for sure. Especially if you plan on towing.

I went with 20” since that’s what was in the truck stock. I kept the same tires. I love the look.

    Sweet looking ride Nick!

Can't help you on the size but as Patriot said, Michelin Defenders are an awesome tire, had them P rated though on my 14 Limited CM. Quiet as a church mouse did very well in mud and snow.

Hey I’ve got those rims but in a 20 I’m selling them to with or without tires. But that’s how that look think the tire is like a 34 1/2 @Cpa757va

Great minds think alike, good lookin set up @drobb!
But back to the thread, I had factory 20’s on a 275/65/20. Just felt weird, so I ended up going with 18’s and now running a 295/70/18 and I love it!5E4B9487-2CAE-4F28-B632-C6BDBE6EF47E.jpg

I would decide your height and width of tire first and then check price comparing 20” and 18”. Some slight changes in size lead to a big price jump. I did not eant to do CMC on my new truck and ended up going 20” 275 or 285 / 65 / 20

Have 20's but would be rocking 17's.... I had to buy new tires for a big road trip and hadn't worked out my deal yet with a rim company and was still sitting on stock suspension. Will run these 275/65/20's into the ground then go to a 17 on a 35

I feel like I remember more option for 20's than there were for 18's when I was buying from Discount tire. I might be remembering wrong though.

I got 295/70/18 and i like the look of the beefy side walls.

I went with 20” on my 2016, ride very rough but looked cool. I have 18” on my 2019 and it rides much smoother. I like they way both look, but I prefer the beefy tire and softer ride. I would suggest trying to drive a truck with each size wheel and see what you think.

I have two sets of alloys... I roll on 32" 255/70-18 Michelins during the colder months, and 31" 285/60-18 TOYOs when it's hot. The ride on the Michelins is more forgiving, and even though the sidewall is only about .25" shorter the ride on the TOYOs is noticeably firmer... almost harsh. I can only imagine that the ride on short sidewall tires mounted on 20" rims would be way too harsh for me... I think I would like an 18" Michelin that is 33" tall - do they make a 275/70?

It depends on what you’re looking to do with your Tundra.
    Here are some differences IMHO:
20” = Better handling. Not good for off-roading. Sportier look. Maybe a little mileage if you keep pressures up? (I run mine at 38.)
18” = Smoother ride. Better for off-roading. More rugged look.
And if you compare the exact same tire in both sizes, the 20’s might last longer because there’s less flex in them, but I’m not sure about this point.
