I am looking at a 2017 certified 1794 edition. Crewmax 4x4, bronze mica w/sun roof, BSM, spray in bed liner, running boards and TRD off road pkg. It also has a aftermarket rear DVD player on the roof (not thrilled about that). It has its original Michelin tires. They seem to have good tread. 31k miles. 1 owner.

Car fax shows previous damage not accident related. When he traded it in it had a large deep scratch along the passenger rear bed. He turned it into insurance but never had it fixed or so the story goes. Dealership fixed it this week.
I haven’t seen it in person to see how clean the vehicle is, but pictures look nice and they are asking $37k. I am trying to get them down to $35k. I have a 17 Silverado I am trading in. Not sure how much they will try to hose me on that.
Any thoughts on what you guys think is a good price to buy this rig at? Does the reported damage decrease the value? With damage reported should I get it inspected or can I trust Toyota certification?

Thanks for any thoughts or recommendations!

A price in between KBB true value and Edmunds are usually spot on. Just hit those sites and build in all the options and mileage and you will know what is fair in your area. I would push toward the lower end for any vehicle with ANY past damage or multiple owners on a late model.

If they are asking 37k I would not start out offering 35k...Id probably go 33.5

You should try to sell your Chevy to a private party because trading it in will only benefit the dealership.

I F’ed up when I bought the Silverado. I could not find a Tundra I liked. I drove a Silverado and really liked the way it drove and and was given a good deal. It’s not a bad truck, I just want a Toyota. I told them what I would pay and what I wanted for trade. Ball’s in their court. But I am not going to take a big hit on it. I will just keep it.
Hoping to get the Corona virus sales time deal, lol!

That’s the way to do it. Your tundra is out there. Even if it’s not this one you’ll find it.

I searched for three months to find exactly what I wanted. I got mine at a huge discount because the dealership had it for over 100 days. I flew from Dallas to Amarillo, and the dealership picked me up at the airport. Don't settle, and good luck.

When I bought my 2013 the carfax said damaged reported to the rear not accident related. Truck looked perfect so I wasn’t the least bit worried. Mine was a one owner too. Probably just backed into something, I was just glad they took the time to have it fixed. Hope you can get the deal you’re looking for!

    Tastefully enhanced...
Sounds like a good deal...I paid $36k for mine with 52k miles, TRD SC, topper and new tires...and it's a 2014...I would get the tire and size (within reason) you want and try them at $35k OTD...If not, it's still a great deal!!

Take the chevy to carmax or the a chevy dealer, see what they’ll offer you first. Get it in writing. Then you have a back up plan if the Tundra dealer tries to hose you on the trade. Bottom line, always negotiate the price of the new vehicle first, then present the trade after the new vehicle price is locked in.

Might hold off to see what this virus thing does. Economy not looking great, sales should slide in near future. Best time to buy is at end of month anyway.

One additional consideration when buying a USED late model Tundra; a new one can be had for 12% off MSRP PLUS the rebates you qualify for.
    For example;
    -2020 Tundra Crew-Max SR-5 TRD Off-Road 4x4
    -MSRP $47,500
    -12% discount $5,700
-Rebate (dependent on your location etc.) $2,750 in WI

-Equals $39,050 plus tax, doc fee and registration.

If you get this price your depreciation per mile is like 17 cents; not bad.

Plus no concerns from being in an accident, hail damage that was fixed with dentless repair (yes, I got screwed on this in the past) or mechanical turn-ins (yes- Toyotas have problems too).
