No aftermarket alarm , just the OEM toyota system. The red "car and key" light on the dash have been flashing irregularly since " the incident"

irregular flashing on the dash means the alarm has been set off, or you turned it off accidentally or on purpose....

It may sound like it might be a starter issue, based on the mileage and just the click that you mentioned... if it clicks dash shuts off and you hear whining before the dash clicks back on with nothing may be an indication of a starter, based on my experience, to beat the starter you will need to remover 2 heat shields (no fun) and the oil dipstick, so be advised.... (222k 07 5.7l Tundra).

If it clicks and it all dies and doesn't come back on may mean a loose connection or bad ground, based on my experience. If the battery was to go bad then it would at least click over a bunch of times meaning the starter is still good and the battery is going... I don't have faith in Toyota batteries anymore, I went through a dozen in a year, the batteries simply don't like the heat.... I would suggest like stated before, check the battery, I was able to jump my truck with a celica, yes a 4 cyl just 1 time before it died again because I turned it off and turned it back on and it went back to nothing.. Try jumping the truck with a wire from the starter relay which can give you an idea if it really is the starter, I did this and only heard a click which confirmed the starter for me, my car's starter relay is dying and if it overheats it usually fails and I use a wire to bypass it......

    too long didn't read.
    1 check connections (free)
2 check relay attempt jump from here
3 check battery and replace if need be
4 check grounds around all areas
5 double check your alarm and reset (online free) stealership will charge $500 for diagnostic
5 replace starter if all tests fail...

    Thanks For the suggestions.
I am going to start on this project Friday after work. Going to pick up a new battery from Autozone , i think i have enough materials to make up a new 4ga ground wire too.

I went down that same line because I was in denial, but a youtube video with a Sequoia convinced me of the real issue as it demonstrated the same symptoms of my issue, and it turned out it was the actual issue... If it turns out to be the starter, wish you the best of luck..
