Read the law links posted earlier. OEM items are basically exempt.

Some of us have to be here a couple of years for work before going back to where we want to be. Jumping through hoops.

To the people asking how they pass Raptors through inspection, beyond the OEM is allowed thing, the reason Raptors have them in the first place is because they are required to due to their width.

Vehicles over 80 inches wide fall into commercial vehicle categories. Some trucks have them on top of the cab and others have them in the grille. The Raptor was one of the first to have them on a normal sale production vehicle and that is why everyone copies it, and refers to them as Raptor Lights.

Tundra's aren't over 80 inches wide so no requirement, therefor you fail inspection.

I would just remove the marker lights. It really isn’t worth it and are drawing attention to yourself in a negative way. Say you stop and have a beer or two with the fellas after work. Even though having two beers would not earn you a DUI, but would you wanna take the risk?

I hear you ... sort of.

However, I would venture to say that having “a beer or two with the fellas after work” and getting behind the wheel afterward is where in-lies the real, deadly risk before any marker lights situation.

Fair enough. It was just an example. I have no problem with a person having a beer or two within the legal limits. This was more of an extreme example.

    This might work better...

Let’s say you get pulled over after a long day of work because of these lights. It sucks, and makes your day even longer and more costly.

    OP here...

Thanks for all the input. I covered them up with rubber fasteners from Amazon, took it to a new shop and it passed without fanfare.

If it doesn't have one already, install a plug on the line and just unplug them.

Do you have a pic with the covers installed? Just curious. I don't have marker lights, just genuinely curious how it looks.

Yea, Virginia is a strange state when it comes to lights and inspections. Last week I was shopping for lights to go with my incoming aftermarket bumper. Being in VA, I knew this would be a touchy area. There is a small family owned auto repair shop next to my business that I have a very good relationship with. Use them for all company cars and most employees use them as well. Had a long discussion with their inspector last week about this and what my options were for legality and this is his summary:
    • Limited to 4 forward facing lights on at any given time (not including parking lights)
    • Aftermarket pods are legal to be used as fog lights as long as they are SAE approved AND automatically turn off with high beams
    • Aftermarket light bars
      • Can be on the vehicle, BUT MUST be covered with the manufacturer cover. No homemade covers or backyard engineered cover. The cover is a requirement for inspection. While on the road, being pulled over for an uncovered light bar depends on the mood of the LEO. He did say that if you drive on the road with a light bar turned on, you will most likely be pulled.
      • If the light bar is mounted on the vehicle, then it MUST work. If LED, then 50% of the LED's must work.
With this information, I was planning on mounting a 30" light bar and 2 pods for my new bumper. I was actually surprised how limited light bards are out there without a cover option. I ended up ordering:
    • BD Squadron SAE wide corning Pods
    • Rough Country 30" light bar with cover.
He said that this will pass inspection.

Commonwealth my ass LOL! You'd think these states would have bigger fish to fry than policing "more than 4 forward facing lights"... I mean c'mon man.

I've had my fair share of dealings with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania in regards to window tint on the front two windows (usually always losing haha). Unfortunately for us, the phrasing of the law leaves much to interpretation by the officer enforcing it.
