Hey all, Just checking in with the group been looking for a good tundra forum and hope i found one where everyone is active and friendly. I've been researching Tundras for about two or three weeks now after taking one for a test drive. I picked up an 06 SR5 4x4 double cab with 120000 on it yesterday and after driving it for 3 hours back home I love this thing. My only concern is the timing belt I am not sure if it was changed is there anyway to tell if this has been done?

Welcome from NH! is there any way to find out who the previous owner was? Like receipts in the the glove box, or maybe the dealer you bought it from could help you out!

Welcome and good call on picking up the Tundra! Sorry I don't have any advice on the belt issue. Unless as earlier posted there are receipts or some such, I can't think of any other way to know.

Well not sure if it was changed or not but the truck is running strong. What I'm at a complete loss is how did this truck get such bad rankings. It is awesome to drive nice and smooth ride as well as very quiet noise wise. Is it me or are the pros (car and driver etc etc) just bias against the Tundra. This truck feels like it has a faster acceleration than my friends 06 Ram.

Welcome to Tundras and congrats on the purchase. That baby is just getting broken in! Did you get to review a Carfax before the purchase? If not, ask to see if the dealer can get you one, sometimes service records are documented on them.

I haven't read any of those reviews, I plan to stick with Toyota until one let's me down. I know out truck has poor MPG, but if I know it's reliable and powerful and that is most important to me. I don't have many other gripes about it.

Enjoy the new truck, post up some pics!

carfax says no accidents and 2 owners, says the vehicle went in for service recently to the dealership. I'm going to call tomorrow and find out what they did. My one concern currently is the oil pressure. While driving and the oil is hot my pressure gauge shows it at the lower mark. not the bottom but one up. I checked the oil in seems a bit low sitting at the bottom button. Oh well time for an oil change tomorrow after work.

Hopefuy the dealer will tell you what they did
I don't know when Toyota calls for a.timing belt for the 5.7. Too tired to search it at the moment.

I would snap a picture of the oil gauge once you have it warmed up, ask other guys to compare to their 2nd gen 5.7 when warm.

    Good luck.

Timing belt was supposed to be changed at 90k.

Maybe an experienced tech can tell the difference between one thats a few years old and one thats 10 years old? Not sure but worth a shot if you cant find any history. Definitely would ask the dealer about looking up service records.

Your gonna love the 06, just sold mine 8 months or so ago.
