I’m not doing foam cannon and 2 bucket. It was all I could do to get around her car fast enough before the soap dried... trips back to the bucket? Forget about it... unless you’re talking about doing it one panel at a time.

Time restrictions aside: why foam cannon and 2 bucket? Just for more suds? I could see the need for a rinse bucket so you aren’t just pushing dirt around all over the car, screwing up your clear coat...

We don’t put a ton of miles on our cars, so a weekly wash would probably be ok with the foam cannon (still need to rinse the mitt, good thin I got 2 lol).

My foam seemed to be about consistent with what I saw on the Amazon reviews. I’ll look for instructions and keep fiddling with it :)

My truck is a weekend warrior. I wash her every two weeks or so. I use car shampoo with mine to help remove the harder debris to suds won’t get to.

Edit: Safari is acting up. I answered your first part inside of the quote.

Fiddling with it will definitely get you more foam.

Also, I was using mr pink at about 1:10 ratio (1 part soap to 10 parts water) which is the thickest solution to use with their foam cannon... I’m going to dial it back and see if I get better results.

It’s hard to focus with the little ones. It’s easier when they’re bigger. I mean, I’m pretty sure they’re all in the house at the moment....

Yeah, they’re the priority. I told them not to play with the suds as they washed down the drive way. 5yo tried to put his foot down (while on his bike) and slipped. Scraped up his knee pretty bad. 2.5 yo must have though it looked fun because he started doing the same shit on his scooter. He sat in a chair in the garage while I dried her car “I can’t trust you to listen, you will sit where I can see you.” 5yo sat next to him, but I didn’t tell him too - nursing his wound... so that went faster lol

Washing.... started at about 7am. Finished at around 10am.

Waxing. Started around 2pm. Had a few interruptions but finished McKee sealer around 4. BWW too from 4-5, but I didn’t do the roof...
I didn’t actually take notes on start and stop times, just what I recall from glancing at the phone and other stuff we had going on.
I was also washing microfiber cloths and chasing kids for part of it.

3 hours seems a little crazy for wash, so I’m going to see if I can cut that down.

The bww went on and off a lot quicker this time.. I applied it to 3 panels, one at a time. Each took about 5 minutes. Then I went back to the first and buffed the first. Then I applied to a forth... and round and round I went. It not sitting on so long made it easier to buff off I think. The bottle didn’t say how long to leave it on. Some got left behind, I could feel the difference lol But I’m not sure it will be as effective as I think it may not have completely dried.

With the McKees I applied it to the whole vehicle, then went around and buffed it off. I may have gone a little too thick.. took 4 towels to buff it all off.. I used every inch of the low pile side on those towels.

If the first pic after the wash is the McKees, then, yes, it's too thick. The longer you leave that on before removal, the slicker the paint gets, and according to McKees, the better it protects. Your wash regimen will now be cut down dramatically, as the 'prep wash' stage is not necessary for normal maintenance washes. Unless exposed to contaminants/fallout regularly, you'll not need either mechanical decontamination (clay) or chemical decontamination (Iron remover) either. Your layer of BWW will probably last you two, maybe three weeks. After that, a nice boost with a spray wax (as a drying aid or otherwise), will keep that Tundra looking as sharp as it does right now.

For what it's worth, I've gone away from the traditional 2-bucket method. I use several wash mitts, and once used, they never go back on to the paint. It does take several mitts to get thru a wash, but I like it as a trade-off when trying to mitigate marring during the wash process.

Thanks for the response and previous recommendations!
I stated over the pic the one that’s McKees High Def. that’s after it’d been on for a while. Are you saying it’s extra protected because it sat so long? I’m sure it’s a ratio of thickness to drying time as more product would take longer to dry. I’ll do my best to go lighter next time.
For reference the BWW pic was taken right after I had applied it to that area, so it didn’t have much time to dry/fog up. As stated in the long write up, I did another two panels before buffing it off.

I didn’t plan on doing this INTENSE clean as a maitenence wash. But I also don’t think my wife would be happy with me spending the majority of 4 Saturday’s a year in the garage (I figure fall and spring for major detailing, probably won’t get many washes in during the winter). As stated previously, I’ll likely just use mr pink for my maitenece wash, and adding some sort of wax topper once a month or so (I hope). If it’s a spray on & wipe off I may be able to get away with doing it more often.

I was planning on reapplying BWW once a month, but your response doesn’t mention that: is it a bad idea to apply that kind of wax when not doing a full detail?

I think I’ll stick with the 2 bucket wash for now, or the foam canon with a rinse bucket for the mit for when it is far less dirty. If it’s extra dirty I think I’ll foam canon, wait the 15 min, rinse it off (no mit), then 2 bucket (all with mr pink) to help prevent marring. I don’t find the 2 bucket wash too much work and I’m not too concerned about marring as I’ve been doing 1 bucket with a quality MF scrub pad so far and haven’t noticed any. I do usually hit it with the pressure washer with the high powered wand to knock off any loose dirt, but I’ll probably refrain from that (only use the lower powered wand) for maitenence washes as I don’t want to take off the sealer.

Like @briarpatch I don’t do two bucket either. I use the same method as he does. Never go back to the paint with a mitt or towel. Now you know why I had 88 to fold one day.

Gave the daughters new ride a pretty thorough cleaning this morning.

    Wash with Reset
    Iron-X
    Clay Mitt
    Rinse
    Wash with Rest again.
    Topped of with Reload
    Chemical Guys VRP on trim.
McKees 37 wheel coating. (I’ve never used this before. Had it sitting there, figured it was as good a time as any.)
Waxaddict Tyre Feeder (Since it was my daughter’s car, I tried out the luster glittery shimmery stuff that Richard sent as a sample. I’ll report back on it.)

@HecticEnergy since this thread has just turned into the go to general discussion thread for detailing, you need to change the title to “Detailers Live”

No issues with re-applying BWW once a month.....it's a fairly thin layer of protection, that, due to it's lack of longevity, is unlikely to build up on you....especially in that Texas heat. As far as the HiDef goes, it's the contention of McKees that the longer it sits, the better the protection. It has something to do with the 'cross-linking polymers'...whatever they are. I'm definitely no chemist.

First McKees product I’ve used, actually. I’ve also never done a wheel coating, other than using Waxaddict wheel wax once.
I also have some Carpro DLux standing by.

I got some nice comments from some onlookers this morning. Some who knew the time I took with it, others who could have only guessed LOL

I did it for me, not them, but people apriciating the hard work is always nice.

I think I may pull the badges off... I could go either way on the looks, I’ve leaned toward keeping them, but they are just in the way when I’m waxing

Also.. on the pro grille, I’m pretty sure the center is painted black, but not entirely sure... wax it or no? I did the surround, but not the insert.
