Heavy Steering-Suggestions?

I am having an issue with "heavy" steering (2000 4x4). Replaced pump, rack and pinion, and front end bushings on wheels, lower control arms. Aligned the front end and there is no abnormal tire wear. I tried steering the truck while moving with engine off and I felt like I was driving a tank!
Any ideas where to look? Thanks

 

Um....yes...? That is how vehicles feel when you try to steer them without the power steering....

 

Now there's a comment that's worthless... I am aware of that, however, if there are no more smug comments I am looking for an actual intelligent response of possible causes. I thought this was a site to get ideas and support...

 

Well there's an attitude that's worthless. I was going to help you on this one, got a great idea what it could be, but I think I'll pass for someone who thinks it's OK to crap on one of the more helpful guys around here.

I’m failing to comprehend why someone would want to steer a vehicle with the engine off. The cause of your issue is that you aren’t utilizing your “power” steering. Intelligent enough for you?

I have no way of knowing what you are aware of, or not, or why you are even commenting on steering performance without power steering, so I was trying to get to baseline with the conversation before moving on, as its a waste to start digging into a diagnosis if the problem is just unreasonable expectations.

You only get as much support as you're willing to put into the question. If you're aware that vehicles are hard to steer without power steering....complaining about that is worthless comment.

Have you tried jacking up the front end during any of this work and running the front wheels through a full range of motion, listening for any grinding, etc?

Bad ball joints can cause steering resistance, although thats is rare, or more likely, a binding, worn out steering shaft U-joint, although you think that would have been checked at some point during all the other work you've had done. But like I said, I have no way of knowing anything, but what you put in your post.

 

Is the fluid clean? How did you bleed it? Was the steering heavier then normal bleeding it?
