Headlights

Looking for good quality headlights and tail for my 2010 tundra base model. Don't want them to leak so I've been searching for a good price and a perfect fit.i know a lot of them don't line up like OEM ones.any advice for good quality and not 1000 dollars please I'm all ears? Thanks so much.

 

@memario1214 is our lighting guy. Good quality and under $1000 for front and rear might be cutting it close but he will help you out with what will work for you. Just an FYI, he also has all kinds of goodies...wheels, suspension, etc.

 

I got a couple of sets of the cheap ones ($100ish for a pair) and it's not leaking that's an issue. One set the stock bulbs would hit the black housing when you tried to aim them. That caused the adjustment to stop working. All the lights have vent hole in the back. Neither of the cheap set leaked and I'm sure they will not last as long as the originals before they discolor. I just couldn't see spending a lot of money on headlights.

The set that broke I pulled apart and combined parts from the OEM lights (the black rear housing and the adjusters) with the parts that needed replacing from the aftermarket ones (the lenses and the reflectors). Doing so I got to play with how the lights are built and sealed. The lenses have a butyl tape that seals them to the housing. It's very hard for that gap to leak.

I ended up putting in universal projector lenes. You have to take the lights apart but they fit into the hole for the low beam bulb. They have a hood that electronically flips up when you turn on the high beams. The ones I got are LEDs but I've seen HID ones too. If you want bright they are like a sun. On low beam the hood cuts off the light (almost too much) so you don't blind oncoming cars. But when you turn on the high beams it's like having a giant light bar.

If you swap out your headlights and you like to fiddle I would play around with your original headlights vs just throwing them out. After taking the OEM ones apart I removed almost all of the butyl so I could put them back together and take them apart easily so I could try out the projectors. They may not look as nice as some of the ones with DRLs but they do give the truck a more modern look. I also swapped on the 3rd brake light and I'm now looking for LED taillights that look a bit more modern.

 

Vland has nice looking LED head+tail for $600 on ebay right now.
