Look at this Shifty, there may be a JL Amp in my future after all. Don't think it will fit under the dash g13698361-o_other7.jpg but, very tempting. $10 more than the MBQ and $253 in scratch and dent. 75 watts×4, something to ponder. https://www.crutchfield.com/p_13698361/JL-Audio-JD400-4.html

Yeah, I mean, given the space constraints, the 4ch vs 5ch was a real dealbreaker for me. I wish more manuf'ers would realize there's a huge drive in the consumer world to have 2 stereo channels with 1 mono channel for a 4.1 configuration. It's why the HD900/5 made so much sense to me. As long as you plan out your impedance on your subs wisely, and the amp can handle it, it's a great solution.

I would prefer a 5 channel also, but, a powered sub would solve that dilemma for the most part. Although, I think the mono Amp included in a JL, MBQ, or Alpine amp is probably going to be superior to what comes in a modestly priced powered sub. Oh well, I'm in no hurry. There's plenty of time to explore possibilities.

Totally. And honestly, while I love the idea of running a single 8awg/10awg to one amp vs. two 10awg/12awg to each amp, I do find the idea of dropping one small 4ch amp, say, in the center console or in the dash (or something) and tossing a mono sub amp where the OEM amp is bolted is appealing. I personally prefer short speaker runs to my subs.

Go with double din and back up camera while you’re at it. I did that and additionally added a powered 8” sub.
