Have I spent too much for a 2002 Tundra? I don't think so

    2002 Tundra SR5
    Hi,
My name is Steve. I live in the Central Coast area of California. I've worked my life as a small airplane mechanic. Last week I bought a 2002 Tundra SR5 with a manual transmission and 120,000 miles on the clock.
It's got the 1 and a half cab and a camper shell.
After a new set of tires, and alignment it drives very well.
Unfortunately, the transmission was singing esp in 5th gear so that was overhauled. Now I believe I have the truck I'll drive without many problems for at least 10 years.
Some people scoff at how much money I have in a 19 year old truck but this unit is solid. And it just "fits".
I am going on a 1300 mile camping trip early in May and taking a shorter 450 mile testing trip this weekend. I am not expecting any problems.

Welcome! It's hard to say without knowing what you spent, but an 02 with 120,000 miles is a unicorn especially if the frame is solid. 4.7 or 3.4?

Nice truck, especially with the manual but I don't know how much you have paid so you paid too much...:)

Edit...now I know how much you paid. You didn't do bad at all. It's a manual.....man.

Be sure to check timing belt, it should have been changed by now. Only other thing I can think of is around 200k inspect front suspension 1st gen taco's ball joints tend to wear out, don't know about the tundra. I had a 98 taco, same powertrain and it is still running to this day with over 250k.

And you shouldn't. I drive my 1997 T-100, V6 factory 5 speed manual, every day. It just sails on at 265,000 miles.

Welcome from LA (Lower Alabama)! Congrats on an awesome find! That averages out to less than 6,000 miles per year!

Sounds like a solid truck. When you browse around the first gen territory you'll find so many of us in the same boat. A 20 year old truck will take some money to keep going but these trucks are worth keeping on the road.
