Have been considering a Tacoma. Now thinking Tundra.

Tundra for reliability, power, space, and fun. Tacoma if you need to offroad on tight trails.

Wow, with all the issues the taco is having I'm second guessing my decision to buy one as a toy after the tundra is paid off. But you know what?!, I think I'll buy these rare single can beauties right here and make it a toy!

I'm 90% sure they discontinued the single cab from the Tundra line up. Apparently everybody wants a damn CM haha

Single cabs were discontinued in 16 due to lack of sales. More people buying double cab long bed.

I was in the market for a new truck last year. my wife loved the 2010 Tacoma that I had and was pushing me to get a 2016 Tacoma. After reading about the engine and transmission on the new Tacoma, I was a little unsure about it as well. I had already felt that the Tacoma was a little cramped for me and I wanted more space. I started looking at the 2016 tundra and fell in love with it. I am glad that I switched to the tundra :)

I test drove both trucks today and WTF did Toyota do to the poor tacoma? You have to stand on the gas to get it to move and I see what you guys are saying about the 5.7 in the Tundra that thing flat goes. I am struggling a bit with tne size of the Tundra so i did not pull the trigger yet.

I too was worried about the size of it, but you certainly get used to it very quickly. I really liked the Tacoma, but it was just too small.

+1, I thought it would take longer to transition back to a full after driving mids for 13 years. It is 20 hwy miles from dealership to work. That is about how long it took

My old commander has a tacoma and loves it. Lots of miles and mods. He states that the only thing he hates about it, it that it's not a tundra. ( he hated it when I brought home a brand new tundra :dancingbacon::dancingbacon:)

I had a 2016 Tacoma 4x4 SR5 for two years. I also had a 2005 Tacoma TRD 4x4 Manual. The 2005 with the 4.0L manual was a amazing truck. After driving the 2016 for two years, the lack of power and comfort on road trips finally wore me down. Also the recalls and TSB's for the Tacoma didn't sit well either. I don't regret the Tundra one bit, you will love every bit of it. Only down side is the storage inside, I wish it had the under seat like the Tacoma. Tundra all the way.

I drove an 06 Taco for ten years and it did everything i ever asked of it. As my life changed, i felt the larger sized vehicle would suit me better, and it has. I don't know anything manmade and mechanical won't have issues, so i think you should purchase the truck that will serve yours needs for the future, not what you need today. BTW i took my Tundra offroad where my Taco went, and it perform just as well as my Taco did.

I was one of those "lucky" ones who bought a 2016 Tacoma. I was fine with the lack of low end, learned to rev it higher and with ECT on, it wasn't bad. I knew I was in a midsize so I kept those expectations. I stayed patient when there was a recall, then a TSB for this and that, and ofcourse, they never got it fixed fully the first time. I even joined TW basically to see if I'm the only one. It just hit a point where Toyota is telling me they can't fix all the issues, they know they're there, but it will take a huge motion from the top to get these things changed and since sales are strong for the Tacoma, there isn't enough of an incentive to redesign major components and integrate it into production. Not saying it won't happen, but realistically, I don't think the 3rd Gen Taco is going to see much hope until 2020-2021.

So now I'm a week or so away from saying bye to the Taco and hello to a new Tundra. I have a soft spot for a Taco, am a sucker for how it looks but like having a hot girlfriend riddled with issues and baggage, its time to get out before it gets too messy and find a more stable, reliable one. One thing I'm looking forward to for sure is the feel and sound of that V8.

I just picked up a 2015 Tundra but I had a really hard time with the decision. I was comparing apples to apples (as much as possible) and it came down to these 2 trucks...

2015 Tacoma Access Cab TRD Off-Road w/16K mi
2015 Tundra Double Cab TRD Off-Road w/18k mi

Price difference was exactly $5k. The Tacoma was very tempting because it would fit in my garage at home and work (tundra doesn't), gets slightly better gas mileage and is basically the pickup truck version of my Gen4 4runner that I love.

What it came down to for me is this... the Tacoma is a lot of fun and better suited as an off road rig and a little easier to deal with day to day size wise but that's not what I was buying a truck for. I wanted a truck to use as a truck and the Tundra has that hands down over the Tacoma (size, payload, towing capacity, power, etc.).

I bought the double cab Tundra because I really don't need a back seat and I think the bed on the CrewMax is too small but if it were an option on the 3rd gens, I would have bought a RCSB in a heartbeat and had the best of both worlds IMO!

Agree with many of the posters here. It depends, to a large extent, how you'll be using the vehicle. In my case, the Tundra was the logical choice for hauling. I've noticed friends with smaller trucks typically ask me to help move items. Also, handy for plywood and such. Another factor, for me, was towing. In the past, used an underpowered SUV for the camper...and although the Taco might have done it....there would be no "reserve power" left. The Tundra tows with ease.

As far as a daily driver, this is how I use the Tundra. Not a bad ride and fortunately I don't have to park in a big city. The Tundra works for about 90% of what I need...which is pretty good. Also, it just makes me happy to drive it every day!

Your right on the power, I bought a 2016 Tacoma OR and put a 3/1 lift with big 285 KO2's, it seems like the new tires were filled with lead not air! I missed my 2010 Tundra I traded so I got a 2017 4X4 Tundra CM 5.7 and never looked back at the Tacoma.

You will get used to the size of the Tundra and will love it, power, space and proven quality!

I have a 2017 Tacoma OR M/T, with 11,500 miles on it, that I am considering trading for a 2017 Tundra SR5 Crewmax. There just is not enough room for me and my family in the Tacoma. I thought that I could make it work but I can't.

I am 100% serious when I say the following statement. They offered me, on trade, exactly $1,600 less than I paid for it 10 months ago. I was absolutely shocked at that. Maybe it is due to it being a manual and being hard to find. I am close to pulling the trigger and doing it.

Pull the trigger and don’t look back, best move you’ll make!

I bought a 2016 Tacoma TRD OR DC and six months later I traded it in for a 2017 Tundra CM 4x4 and they gave me $2000 less then I paid!

I missed the room, power and feel of my previous 2010 Tundra and when I got back into this 2017 Tundra I knew I was at home, felt like Goldilocks getting the right fit!

    Good luck

I had a 2015 Taco I bought new. I liked it a lot and towed with it. It "worked" a bit on hills and stuff. I bought a different trailer that was heavier and I was over weight. I went back and forth Tundra vs F150 and the Ecoboost scared me off. I traded it in on a 2013 Tundra ... SR5 so I don't worry about the leather getting mauled by my dogs, but I got a unicorn model with a Sunroof!!! (I missed my sunroof moving from a car to the Taco).

It's night an day different. So smooth, so much space, but oddly not any harder to park, and cushy. I have two kids and I didn't realize how big the Crewmax was inside compared to the Taco's Doublecab (4 big doors).

Mileage stinks, but I hypermile when I can. Accidentally stomping on the gas and MOVES!

I just test drove the Tundra over lunch today. It is enormous inside. I am 6'4" and about 280 lbs and I had to move the seat up because I couldn't reach the pedals comfortably. The truck is nothing fancy. It is an SR5 with the 18 inch wheel option and the SR5 Upgrade Package. It also comes with the All Weather Liners. Those are the only options.

My Tacoma has been fine and not part of the rear differential recall. I have crawled underneath to check for leaks or seeping but nothing yet. That doesn't mean it won't happen. I do have the howl, although. That is annoying. It is just too small and if it is worth that much, I might as well do it. I didn't really lose anything.

I am 99.9% sure I'm going to do it. Right now, they have 0.9% or $1,750. This is one of those rare instances that it makes sense to take the interest rate rather than the cash back.

I am not sure how they can give that much on a Tacoma trade. I guess people still want them even though there are problems.

yep we are changing from a oct-2015 (read as 1st month of 3rd gen availability) Tacoma trd sport double cab v6 with jbl/moonroof and everything else. did about 2k in upgrades (see signature). price was just a bit over 37k, out the door was 39k. we have gotten to the point that the Tacoma is too small in the backseat, and i have decided i don't want to deal with the issues anymore with the Tacoma, the wife it doesn't bother her as much. i would have to say after have 2 2nd gens (2006 & 2012) this 3rd gen is a disappointment long term wise. i honestly have to say out of owning 18 Toyota's since early 80's this Tacoma has been the worst in issues.

i am getting fidgety waiting for our 18 platinum cause i just want out of all the stuff that is slowing getting on my nerves (but that is just me).
