I rented two of these last year. The hydraulic brakes worked fine on both. Also I backed up both without doing anything, so I don't know about this "pin thing"..

ive towed both the enclosed and open trailers of theirs and theyve both had that braking system on the tongue. you can actually feel the trailer brakes when you start to apply your brakes. very easy to tow...

towing forward is not that hard as long as you make wide turns and plan accordingly. reverse is best left for the pros. i have a very good handle on backing trailers and 9 out of 10 times i can put it in a spot without having to go forward and lining up again.

    takes lots of practice.

go to an empty parking lot and practice putting the trailer in any space. then do laps around the lot in reverse in both directions.

i was taught like that in the army. i never drove forward except when pulling out of the parking space then they would line me up and i would drive in reverse for hours around the motor pool in both directions, once i mastered that then we went forward and understanding that it happens almost immediately because you respect whats behind you.

FYI, I was looking at options of moving inlaws from Ohio to SC. I ended up spending about $500 extra over rental options and buying used 14' enclosed off Craigslist, ended up going again a month later so paid off.

What drop did you use for the hitch? The U-Haul store was not that helpful and I am slated to tow the same trailer next week from TN to NH with my stock 2017 1794. Thanks!

Towed a 6x12 stock height on my DC 4x4 trd. Used the uhaul brand 2 1/4” drop, was level. Went with that one cause it was the same price as everyone else and it’s rated to 7500 lbs I believe. All most others are 5500-6500 lbs on a 2” ball

I had it set at the 3 inch drop, but I have a 6 inch lift and 35”s. Yours will probably be different.

Pulled a car carrier with an xterra on the back and was one of the smoothest I ever pulled.

This was a new one though. The straps were clean.

Will be towing the 6x12 soon. Will the 2 1/4” drop hitch work with a 2” level in the front and 33”s?

Pulled one of these with my old 2010 4 banger Tacoma 5 speed. Loaded full of heavy furniture for several hour mostly highway. I think ur tundra will be fine..

It was my first time ever towing. An I couldnt believe how confident I felt. Even with no power an a small truck fully loaded . But use your head.

Be sure to check for good tires when picking the trailer up. Don’t be shy asking for a different trailer it the tires are near bald. Check the tire pressures. Take pictures of any existing trailer damage when you pick it up.

Also, uhaul has a “what trailers can my vehicle tow? tool. Enter your truck info and see if this trailer is on the list. If it is, your truck will have no problem towing it. They will hook it up for u when you pick it up and unhook it when you drop it off.

Some good advice above. I’ve pulled the 6x12 a couple times. First was from Vegas to Salt Lake City. The Tundra makes pulling this easy. It was also my first time towing. This trailer uses the 4-pin connector and the trailer brake is integrated with the trailer. A trailer brake controller is not required for them. I’ve also rented for short trips around town.

I rented a 33 foot RV a couple summers ago. At 7400 pounds it was the heaviest I’ve pulled and was some white-knuckled driving pulling across state lines through canyons and cross winds. Much respect for those pulling much larger loads.

Be cautious, don’t do anything you’re not comfortable with and respect the limits of your equipment.

Th U-Haul folks hooked up my trailer so well that it came off a few miles down the road. Fortunately it was while backing it into the driveway. After it was hooked up properly, the Tundra towed it like boss...except for the 10 mpgs.
