It seems like someone would have come up with a reliable and easily transportable satellite system by now. What's the latest and greatest??

The next big thing that people are talking about is Starlink but it's not ready yet.

Back in the day when lived oit in the country (no broadband/fiber optic at that time) we looked into Hughes Net - I think that was the name... they had satellite internet, used a dish similar to DirecTV at the time. Don't remember the exact amount, but I recall it was stupid expensive.

If in the OP's shoes, I'd switch to unlimited on my Verizon plan (we have Verizon too) and hotspot it when we couldn't mooch off wi-fi at the RV park (or Starbucks, or wherever you might find it).

My former company (enterprise level, 2000+ employees, mostly remote), deployed Verizon hotspots. Very minimal issues across that kind of deployment. I worked very closely with our mobile admin, so I knew about every issue that came up with them.

How much are you looking to spend and how much data do you think you’ll use?

I'm really not sure how much data we would use but I'd be willing to spend a decent amount on something reliable.

that link will get you $50 off your order.
I have this for my home internet.
They use routers that you can hook an external antenna up to. May need to pair with a weeboost If you’re super remote but you shouldn’t get throttled.

I used a WeBoost 4G-X OTR while out exploring the lower 48. It allowed me to stay connected when working remotely. It boosted the signal from 1 bar to 2-3 in some very remote places. I'd highly recommend it. I used it with a Verizon hotspot

Here are a few great spots I camped at using the setup:

Thanks for this response. Were you primarily checking emails or also running programs on a laptop? Which Verizon hotspot did you use?

What a killer opportunity to get out and travel.

What vehicle are you taking? The reason I ask is some vehicles come with wi-fi services that are pretty damn good. I know my onstar is very good (expensive...but) and AT&T/Verizon have some deals with auto manufacturers for their own wi-fi plans. I used up the OnStar time when buying my GMC, but didn't renew. They have some amazing features that I didn't fully explore. At the time we had AT&T and added a line to my truck for the WI-FI plans. I rarely had no cell signal and most of the time it was excellent.

Another option is have one of you stick with Verizon and the other go with a different cellular carrier. I have T-Mobil and it has been very good on all my travels. They also have T-Mobil internet.

If you are doing AIRbnb's and hotels 65% of the time, you should be covered.

We'll be taking my 02 Tundra. No Wi-Fi in this old girl. Hell it came with a cassette player. :D

    Good suggestion though.

    Well there's always the T-Mobil option.

Hell, the 2020 Tundra has about as much tech as your '02...minus the awesomeness of a cassette player.

Totally missed this tag the other day, sorry Sunny! :anonymous:

He is running the same 4G-X OTR that Bailey is.
