I have a pioneer. Avh5800bhs love the sound. Quality..but the other functions not so much..it uses my phone as the GPS and a third party maps not google maps. I was informed Kenwood uses google map.

If you're serious about the navigation, get a dedicated GPSr, skip the built ins. I have both.
Otherwise maybe look for somebody's used factory take-off or a salvage yard?

honestly use a free phone app and mirroring to the head unit or apple play /android based head unit. Will work most of the time and no need to pay for updates.

Android head unit GPS work well but the Bluetooth and sound quality are in the low end. I have owned two.

I Just had a Kenwood Excelon DNX-994S installed and I LOVE IT !!!
My old Stock Head Unit had a broken CD Player so I pulled the Trigger.
I REALLY like the Garmin Navigation & my Garmin NUVI stopped working. The New Garmin NUVI are expensive so I figured I wold go with the best of both worlds and get the new DNX-994S. I can't believe how good it sounds & works even with the Stock SR5 Speakers.

I have a Pioneer HU and it has been flawless so far. The only issue I had was with the unit not working (the whole unit) when the temperature dips below -22 F or so. Then when the car warms up, it begins to work again. The sound has definitely improved. Navigation works fine for me. The interface is somewhat different from Garmin, but after getting used to it a bit, it works well. I never felt that I had to use my iPhone app.
