    don't know
I recommend considering RTIC coolers. They have received positive reviews for their functionality and ice retention capabilities. They offer a range of sizes, including options in the 40-56 quart range. RTIC coolers are often regarded as a cost-effective alternative to premium brands like Yeti, while still providing reliable performance.

Specific heat of water > specific heat of air. Fill your coolers for them to perform optimally. Pre-cool/chill. Make sure items are at least refrigerated before placement. This gets the individual cooler’s best performance possible.

Need the cooler to stay cold longer? Block ice. Less surface area to react with ambient temps.
Need to cool your drinks faster? Ice cubes/ chips. More surface area to react with your drinks.

    just easy physics.

Any of the decent gasket-having roto molded coolers will cover 95% of what most of us need (long weekends, 3-5 day trips). If you need more than that, get a fridge/ freezer setup.

Final variable is always cost. Do you want someone to know how much you spent on your cooler or do you not care? For the record I have rtic’s, Coleman’s, and yes even yetis (helps to hit the Father’s Day sales at the exchange to take the sting out). But expect $100+ to get a cooler that’s capable of the 3-5 excursions.

Took the BLUE brand cooler on a trip and it performed very well. Under the tonneau cover, ambient heat varied up to 88*F.

Agree with this. Either a bag of sacrificial ice and a few large reusable blocks the night before with the cooler inside my house helps it perform much better.

If I am taking bottled water I will also go ahead and freeze a few of those and put them in the cooler and let them thaw over the trip.

    Older thread, however
    Always prechill as described above

My Orion works circles around my RTIC and 2 Yetis

My plug in car fridge is still better than any of them but only when capable of being plugged in

Anker is releasing a battery powered cooler later this month. Can sign up now to get 25% off when released. They haven’t said which compressor is used in it but I’m sure a tear down video will happen once someone gets their hands on one. Iceco, Dometic, ARB and others are likely to follow.
