    I found this thread a day late, Happy Belated Birthday USMC!

    My maternal grandfather was a Marine. He was wounded at (we believe) Guadalcanal, but rarely talked about it. The wound was from a wooden bullet that shattered his hip. He was medevaced out and sent to El Paso for surgery and rehab. Bits of the bamboo bullet circulated through his system and caused cancerous tumors on his spine. These tumors caused kidney failure (and many other issues) and he passed at the age of 63.
