I noticed this at the bottom of @nodak67 signature:

Safety Lockout bypass (driver door open) :with door open, shift into park and then drive again while leaving the door open. Your ECU module will log that you bypassed the safety lockout, and you'll be able to move without engaging the parking brake. but it will throw a warning notification on the MID screen.

that sounds handy and is something I need to try. If anyone has found something like that I'd like to try them. I'm not sure if his tip is something Toyota built in or is just an oversight that happens.

I created a new thread because I didn't want to hijack the fuel gauge thread.

I thought he was referring to the fact that if you put the truck in drive with the door open and try to move the truck, the e-brake automagically engages. Shifting to park and then drive again with the door open bypasses that safety feature.

I didn’t spend the money to just swap out stuff.
It doesn't seem to stick after you turn it off; only that current trip.

I've started truck with door open and put it into gear and it doesn't auto ebrake or prevent you from accelerating

its part of the automatic parking brake function as noted on page 211, its not the same as the PKSB function

if you pull up to spot and open the door and try to roll the truck forward or back with the door open to see what you are doing.
