My beloved 2010 Tacoma Sport was totaled in May by a young man texting on his phone.

In August, my local Toyota dealer ordered a new 2016 Tacoma for me that is due at the dealership October 1st.

Last Saturday as I drove by a different Toyota dealership, I saw several 2016 Tacomas being unloaded off a truck. I swung into the dealership and was able to take one on a test drive.

The 2016's have a smaller, more powerful (42hp more, 278 total) engine, and some significant interior and exterior improvements.

After the test drive, I was just a bit underwhelmed. The salesman then said I should drive the last 2015 5.7L Tundra on their lot.

Drove it, loved it and the rest is history.

Got a new 2015 with 15 miles on it and 0% financing.

Some pictures will follow once I get rid of the steel wheels.

I was a longtime TacomaWorld Forum member and don't have the heart to tell the members there I've got a big boy truck now.

What the hell...here it is in all it's steel-wheeled glory.

Found lots of take off wheels on CraigsList. That'll be my first improvement.

Welcome! Prior Tacoma guy like many here too.
I'm still on TW as most of my buddies have Tacomas and I assist on moderating there too. (As does @csuviper)

First, let me say that the Gen 3 Tacoma is definitely an upgrade from the Gen 2. To me, the new 3.5L engine really didn't feel any more powerful than my old 4.0L, even though it has over 40 more hp. It might be due to the torque being the same so "seat of your pant" acceleration feels very similar.

Unlike many on TW, I happen to like the front of the new truck. The lower lip and grille everyone is moaning and groaning about, looks just fine in person.

The interior is a bit nicer. I really liked the instrument cluster compared to my 2010. Also liked the fact the emergency brake is now on the console.

The Tacoma I had on order was going to be about $37,400 out the door. But that was for a DCSB Sport with every option box checked except 4WD. I had secured 1.9% financing through my credit union in advance. However I was able to get 0% financing on my Tundra through Toyota and only paid $1100 more than the Tacoma's out the door price.

The difference in gas mileage will be the only downside to the Tundra, but I really only drive my trucks between 6,000-8,000 miles a year. I have two other cars and a motorcycle to split mileage between.

Very happy with my Tundra so far and I don't see myself going back to a Tacoma.

    Oh one or two.
Yep i did the same thing i was set on the 16 tacoma i took one for a test drive and was not totally impressed. I then drove the 5.7 tundra and about 5 days later i had my 2016 5.7 TRD Off road. Its just so much more truck for about the same price.

I agree... I think they over priced the taco. We did a pre delivery inspection on a sport fully loaded the other say with a sticker price of 42k. I about shit myself
