This thread makes me wish I had kept one of the wife’s GXs. We had an 05 GX470 Sport and an 11 GX460, but we’re awesome vehicles.

Love the pics and really admiring everyone’s GX builds! My wife got a used 2007 GX 470 years ago that now has over 210K miles on it. We need to upgrade and replace the suspension parts, but I have no idea where to look and what to avoid. It sees mostly street use, but we’d like to take it on occasional off-road trips to Colorado, New Mexico and Big Bend. Nothing hardcore, just forest trails. Intend to keep the stock wheels and maybe go up a size in AT tires.

The adjustable ride height suspension ride was replaced years ago with a non-ride height adjustable coilovers, but I don’t know with what (assuming OEM?). All the rubber bushings are shot, and there’s lots of play with the front lower ball joints.

I’ve already ordered Energy Suspension polyurethane bushings and OEM lower control arms with ball joints installed. Figured I might as well order new front coilovers, rear shocks and rear coils before I install the bushings and LCAs, but not sure with what. I guess I should also replace the upper ball joints (thinking OEM) given the age and miles.

Would like a mild front lift of no more than 1.5” if possible, so I was looking at Dobinsons since they offer that. But I have no exoerience with Dobinsons and don’t know of anything else available offering mild lifts. Will I need new track bars with a 1” rear lift?

The steering rack is leaking, and I’m told there are no OEM seal kits. So it appears I need to replace the whole rack? Not looking forward to that job. Anyone done that yet who can offer some wrenching tips?

Any thoughts, tips, pitfalls on the rest of my suspension upgrade plans?

The suspension components are pretty much the same as 4Runners and FJs.
Personally I'm partial to OME, thats what I have run for the last 20 years or so.
For a 1" rear you shouldn't need new track bars and panhard bar. I replaced mine with Rokmen because I have a 3" lift in the rear. I wanted to correct my pinion angle and I also wanted adjustable for centering my rear axle.
A lot of folks are running the Dobinson kit and seem to be happy with them.
That is correct about no rebuild kits for the rack and pinion. At least OEM. I just replaced mine because both sides were blown. I hear it's a nasty undertaking if you choose to do it yourself. If I remember correctly. I paid $3100 for parts and labor. I took it to my Toyota dealer instead of the Lexus dealer. Toyota was about $560 less than the Lexus shop.
    Sent a PM.

Thanks for the PM and the great info. I’ll have to see if I can find any GX/4-Runner rack and pinion videos to see how involved it is. If the cost was $3100, though, then it sounds like it may be a real PITA to tackle it on my own.

Good to hear about the Dobinsons. I’ve never ran OME but have heard good things about them, especially with the Landcruiser crowd. I did a quick search on OME but didn’t find any mild lift options yet, but I’ll keep looking.

I took the GX on its first off roading adventure this past weekend.

I have good news and bad news.

Good news is that we had an absolute blast.

Bad news is that now I want to do more mods and spend more money.

    These things are animals!

Added some 2023 wheels and updated grill to my wife's 460 and I have to say I like the way it looks. It kinda made it exciting again. Probably end up doing a lift in the next year or so...

I had contemplated doing this to my wife's GX. Did you get the grill local or buy online?

    thanks!

I grabbed one off eBay for around $400. Fits great! No issues with the parking sensors or grill badge.

It looks great, so do the wheels. Can you PM me the name of the seller on ebay please? I had thought about powder coating my wife's wheels gloss black, it would basically look like your wife's. I should show her this to see if I can convince her
