Damn. Academy Sports typically has over 100 guns. They are down to six hand guns, zero ammo, and zero reloading supplies.

Seems like the only guns they can keep in stock are the g26, hellcat, shield, and the new ruger 5.7.
All the academy’s here look just like your pic.

Got my x300 ultra installed today! Waiting on another dawson front sight as I filed a hair too much on this one. The harrison rear sight and 10-8 performance plug installed flawlessly though.

I went out to a few local stores, and handled a few different handguns.

Ended up settling on a Taurus G3, 9mm.
    20210125_095501.jpg

I also bought a cleaning kit, a second mag, and 5 boxes of ammo. 124 Grain, federal, FMJ.

It feels nice in the hand for the price point.

I've already taught myself how to disassemble, and clean it because it was the display model. Using my mechanic brain, it didn't look too bad on the inside. Fairly easy to disassemble, and reassemble.

Thanks for all the advice from all members, and I'm already looking at getting a second. :D

Hopefully, just like my truck, I can learn a lot more about firearms from you all.

Sounds like you made an excellent choice! There is a Taurus G3C (C is for compact) if you want a little smaller grip for concealment.

    Thanks!
I compared that one in store to this one. I'm a bigger fella with appropriately proportioned hands.

Decided to go with the slightly bigger model for comfort/grip.

    Its a great starting point!

I'm a big guy too. I carry a full size 1911 (Springfield TRP). It's heavy but so am I . I shoot it well, can detail strip it in the dark, and feel well protected against most anything. I did come from a long line of Glocks first.

Just built an all KIDD 22.

ABSOLUTELY ridiculous price for just a 22 but always wanted a really nice plinker.

I went ham on just building something that was nice, cheap (ammo) and reliable.

It said to at least shoot 200 rounds to break in the barrel but after I sited the girl in it just kept shooting in a dime size.

I got bored of shooting the damn thing and started shooting the corners of the grid..

First 50 and then 75 yards.
Need to go further but froze my ass off.

That's pretty. I've built up a few 22's. I'll have to post pictures of them later, but it's always fun popping squirrel heads at 100 yards with a 22.

Nice, this is my G2C 9mm. You can get these extensions for just a few bucks if you want me to find the link. Feel nice for the little finger.
EDIT-looks like my link is for 2C and 3C.

The short answer is a Glock 19. However, Smith & Wesson offers a (clone) pistol that is cheaper and has a "safety". I have one and it is a great option for you. Check out the SD9 VE. https://gunivore.com/pistol/smith-wesson-sd9ve-9mm-pistol-review/

Stop it with the TRP (jealous here)!! Those grips immediately made me think it was a Professional.

I need an update pic since I've changed grips on both. I was actually trying to make them Professional clones. Grips are Herrett's magwell cut checkered cocobolo. I dremeled the corners for msh pin access.

For you guys that have 10” barrels on your 300 Blk, I’m building a 300 blackout pistol, I just purchased a Daniel Defense 300s in 10.3” and building the lower myself. Never owned a 300 blackout before, so this will be my first. One question I have is what buffet spring weight are you running? I have an H2 buffer and spring and not sure if that’s enough for sub and supersonic rounds or if I should downsize to the lighter H buffer. I can’t find any rounds that’s available for 300 blk to test it myself, so I’m going off of what the internet should recommend.

Well..... I finally did some stimulating of the economy. Our 2nd stimulus payment was "Lost". What little we were due it showed up today in the bank account. What better way to stimulate the economy then to use IRS stimulus payments for a firearm purchase. Did not need another firearm at all, but really wanted to use the governments money on an AR15. Bough a Ruger AR556 MPR model #8514. It has got some basic upgrades out of the box. Found it at Rural King for $749, plus 5% off for using the Rural King card. They also had some Frontier 5.56 NATO ammo in stock for .35/round so bought my limit of 100 rounds. Don't have the real picture since it is at home in the safe, but a generic pic to pass the time.

After eyeing one for over a year and seeing all the great reviews on here, I picked up this guy yesterday at Sportsmen’s Warehouse. They had one on the shelf along with two boxes of Speer Gold Dots and I figured it was meant to be.
