Glock 9mm Double stack magazines are a gateway drug. I buy one gun, then buy an adequate number of magazines to run it for long range sessions without reloading much. Then realize I have such a big stack of magazines for just one gun I might as well get another platform that takes double stack 9mm Glock mags. At which point I feel like I need to increase the size of my mag stash, which in term makes me look for more guns that can be fed from them.

There are some really nice PCCs that I refuse to buy because it feels foolish at this point with a mountain of Glock mags in the closet to pick something that requires a new set of 40 or 50 dollar proprietary high cap magazines.

How did you figure out your reference slab was flat?

Reference slab? The barrel is held in place by two tailstock centers. It touches nothing more. There can be a rig-induced run out if the barrel sits eccentrically, but that it measurable.

I actually had initial concerns about achievable precision of that rig, but the repeatability of measurements is very high and is actually limited by the gauge I use (1 thou).

Excuse my lack of insight and horrible wording. It looks like you have a dial gauge sitting against a piece of metal, and you slide it down the length and get the run out of the barrel? But how do you know the piece of metal is flat and that you're not measuring the flatness of the piece of metal? You can make sure the tail stocks are in the correct position, but if the mid point shows .040" of runout how do you know the metal piece isn't contributing to that measurement? Or maybe I'm retarded and not following the test setup which is most likely :D

The imaginary center line between tailstock centers is always straight. It is the reference line for the barrel hung between those centers. I start at some offset, find the low spot, zero the gauge, rotate the barrel, find the highest spot, write down the number, move the gauge to another offset, repeat. The measurements are self-referencing, they don't depend on the base at all.

I.e. if barrel is straight, it's bore center line goes through the rig's imaginary center line. Rotating such barrel measures no high spots.

Actually even before welding that rig, I checked the crooked barrel theory by rolling it on a piece of thick polished glass that has a measured flatness of under 0.002" (used it for "machining" a cylinder head), and it indeed felt badly crooked. Both glass and straight edge were made in USA and can be trusted, if you're curious ;) For straightening the barrel I needed a much more precise instrument.

Ahhhh okay I understand. Spinning the barrel for some reason didn't register for me. I thought the barrel was static and you were just measuring off of the center line between the stocks. Thanks for the explanation.

How do you like it? Thinking of 4 or 3.6 Compact as my first hand gun ever (well, for missis when I'm out in the woods).

I've got two of the 3.6 and 4.0 models. The 3.6 is my EDC and my favorite pistol. Ergonomics are great and it shoots wonderfully. I own a number of much more expensive and nicer pistols but carry that M&P everywhere.

I love it! I put the Apex trigger in and that just made it even better than it already was out of the box.

I would not recommend any of the Springfield sub compacts. I had a 3.3 XD 9 and it shot super sloppy. After I went full size (or maybe just Glock), I won’t ever go back. My wife really likes the Glock 48, so when I have funds, that’s what I plan on buying for her.

I'm looking at M&P 2.0 9 mm Compact, not XD. I can get Glock as well, but I prefer to buy local. And, yes, I'm in MA :)

Why do I lie? I will get M&P, and Glock, and 1911, and everything else...

My XD9 had a super sloppy spongy trigger.
I even bought a PRP trigger kit for it.
I wanted to like it so much that I had it done by Virgil Tripp in electroless nickel.

Your story is the same as mine. Full size and sub compact XD9. Full size was alright, but wanted something different. Now I am also a Glock fan boy
