What brand did you guys end up going with??

So, if I'm telling you something you already know, please forgive me; just wanted to offer up some basics to practice and have in mind before you hit the range.... **** If you're going to be handling the firearm outside of the range always make sure the weapon is completely downloaded (per mfr recommendations) and that you have NO live ammo in the same room ****

You already spoke about proper mounting to the should and getting a good cheek weld, so I though I'd throw out stance (your base).

When a lot of folks think about stance and long guns they end up with something that is more perpendicular than it should be. IE>>> Feet are going one direction, hips and centerline of your body is going another, and the weapon is just point toward the target (may or may not be in line w/the feet, hips and center line of the shooter).

Start at the bottom and work up; feet should both be facing forward (generally the dominant side is slightly rearward of the non-dominant) and toward the target (think of a good fighting stance); knees slightly bent; hips square w/the target; slight bend forward at the waist; your centerline and shoulders square with the target; your weight should be on the balls of your feet leaning somewhat forward and into your target. This position should be a bit uncomfortable to your lower back unless you have exceptional core strength.

Also, some folks will elevate their elbows when handling long guns (elbows out from their sides and perpendicular to the ground), but they pulled down and 'locked' into a comfortable position closer to the shooter's sides; the closer your elbows are to your body the stronger and more in control of the weapon you'll be.

Finally, head position... think 'head up, eyes up, gun up'; once you're in a good stance w/your body squared up and your head in a natural position facing forward, mount the weapon to the shoulder and cheek by bringing the weapon into position (and not by tilting your head down to the side to acquire a sight picture). Your neck should remain erect and forward along w/your head while in position to shoot.

You'll know if you're in a good position when you're on the range because your lower back will be slightly uncomfortable, and you'll feel yourself leaning somewhat forward w/o falling over or losing balance. Recoil should come straight back (through your upper body and not lift the muzzle up); if the muzzle is jumping up, you're not 'locked in' enough. Bend knees a bit more, make sure toes are facing forward, hips square, upper body leaning into the shot, and elbows tucking tight into your sides w/the contact points of the weapons firmly in place against your hands, shoulder and cheek.

    images_2841981822d2e46b7b55e4b01db4b71be95c2d94.jpg

and definitely no on this one...

    images_dcd30c9586c6a147df34291278392ce2fe8363a2.jpg

Since you're thinking of this as a self defense weapon, keep in mind movement in a defensive situation... Aside from better control of the firearm, being squared up w/your target and having your feet and such in a proper fighting position allows you the option to move more naturally and freely than a more 'traditional' weaver style shooting stance (last photo). You'll be able to move forward or back, laterally, and even turn or move in circular movements and such much more naturally. You'll also have much better balance and be less likely to trip over something and send a round in an unintended direction.

Lastly, in keeping with the idea of a weapon suited for home defense; once you are both comfortable with the weapon and have the basics down you'll want to make sure being on target and target identification in no-light or low-light conditions is realistic. I'd try to minimize adding weight to the weapon especially since your wife may be handling it, but you may want to consider adding a light source for illumination and possible a red dot or laser for fast target acquisition. One benefit of the design you went w/is that accessories can be added fairly easy; just keep any additions to a bare minimum and only out of necessity
Sorry for rambling on so much; my fingers got to typing out my verbal vomit :anonymous:

    Have fun and safe shooting!!!!

Holds like 6 or 7 rounds. You can do all sorts of things with those too. As with anything these days mods are FUN!:)

what ever it is pointing at in a room or hall it is going to get hit. :)

    Ok, status report!
Keltec KS7...I put on a thicker butt stock and a cheek pad on it. Shooting #4 steel 2 3/4, didn't even feel it! Really nice...thanks for the tips, I think the stance and how to best hold it really helped! I was worrying a lot about nothing!

However, it didn't eject the spent casing, couldn't get it loose. I blew it apart over the evening, oiled it, reassembled, feeling a snag sometimes when racking empty. Going to take it back to the shooting range, try again. If it acts anything less than fabulous, I'll check with the gun shop, then Keltec.

Edit: looking at it, the exploded view, and carefully sticking my finger in there as I slide the action, the bolt has a couple slots across the bottom. The hammer slides across it and to the rear of the gun as you rack it. If you don't power rack all the way back, the hammer is catching in the rear slot. You have to slide a little fore-and-aft to then uncatch it and push the hammer all the way back to get to armed.

This is my most recent purchase.
It is 1 of 500 that were being sold in this color.
It took 6 weeks to get in.
I also recently placed an order for a Silencer for it.

@vorkuta775 I am not sure about that.
Back around August 1st I got an email from Stag Arms. They were doing a 50 Shades of Summer Giveaway. They built 3 different ARs. 3 different colors.
They also had 500 of each color built as well. That is when I got in touch with them about purchasing 1 of the 500. I even had them build it for me because I shoot left-handed.

No new guns recently, but did take advantage of SilencerCentrals “buy one, get a free .22 can” sale.

So in about a year when the cans get out of jail, it will make a few of mine feel almost like new guns.

Went with the Banish Backcountry to use on a few of my lightweight hunting rifles.

But now I NEED a Ruger Mark IV!

@akmerle I could not pass up on that 2 for 1 deal last year. My paperwork was submitted in February, and I got email earlier this week saying the silencers are on the way.
I have been tracking them. I figure I should have them in next day or so.
I purchased a Ruger Mark IV 22/45 Lite.
I will post pictures when I do get them in.

    Awesome!

I think I’m gonna get the Silencer Shop Mark IV 22/45 since I don’t plan on using it without (edited) the can…….. which I am 100% sure is going to turn into me getting a full length 22 can, and a 223 specific whisper quiet can, lol.
