A lot of our guys transitioned off the MP5s to the UMPs and were very happy w/them. Unfortunately, our guys went w/the UMP 40s, and I never really cared for that round, so I just stayed w/the MP5...

I did get a chance to run the UMP 45s when we were going through the transition and got to T&E a few things. The UMP 45 was smooth AF

My daughter is getting married on Wednesday in Vegas.
It will be a small gathering of friends and family, my wife and I will be there.

She texted me yesterday and asked to stop by with her fiance, I figured what better time to give them their wedding gift from ME.
Wife and I gave them $$ for a honeymoon, but this gift was exclusively from Dad to daughter, and I guess son-in-law.

In 2008 at 14 she shot her first firearm at a local range.
This was after years of gun safety talk and helping me clean my guns.
The firearm was a beat-up dirty WG Sig P228 range rental pistol.

We loaded 1 round at a time to start.
Her first shot at about 3 yards.

In 2014 I bought this 1991 West German Sig P228 with the specific reason of giving it to her as her wedding gift.
It has been in the safe since I bought it.
It is in excellent condition with original paperwork, test target, original night sights (that still glow), and 2 13 rd zipperback magazines.
I also included about 8 Meggar 15 rd mags and a new Galco Miami Classic shoulder rig I bought from a Sigfoum memeber.

The SIL got one of my S&W 686 Plus 3" revolvers.
Everyone needs at least one revolver.
Also gave him a holster I bought of a forum member, a Houge grip (the stock grip isn't that great IMO), and 150 rounds of 38sp and 357mag ammo.

His would be the one with the dark wood original grips.
He isn't getting my Culina grips.:eek2:

Taking these two out Thursday, both for sight issues. The PA micro dot I had on the Keltec shit the bed in its first 600 rounds so I put a Vortex Crossfire from another rifle on it that needs to be zeroed. I don't trust the warranty replacement unit Primary Arms sent me now, it's going in the bin as a spare next to my 30 dollar Amazon optic that has soldiered on reliably as a place holder through a few AR15s and an AR9.

I'm finding if you spend less than 200 bucks on any Chinese made dot with a brightness dial it's a crapshoot as to whether the screws holding the dial and battery compartment together were loctited, and that's where you eventually get a flicker on recoil. In that range I'm seeing less and less reason nowadays to give it a second glance if the box doesn't say "Romeo 5."

The Ruger's iron adjustable sights are meh and although it grouped well I had trouble tweaking the elevation and figuring out my holds at various distances last time out. Taking it out again to see if another couple hundred rounds will get me comfortable with it. Otherwise a nice shooting gun except it's a real process learning to be precise with it at different ranges. I'll probably just set it up to hit the plates at the distance where we're allowed at my outdoor range and leave it at that. Or possibly it ends up being one of those awkward looking pistols with a rifle red dot on it since the rail is there and the optic is in a drawer already.

Yeah I may have talked myself into giving this a shot Tuesday. Not sure if I'll mess with irons at all then throw the red dot in the end or just zero the red dot on the beginning then use that the entire time.

excellent choice! I have two mark 4s, I have a lite as well, same color, one silver, one red, and a 22/45 tactical. get yourself a can to go with it and a 507c with ACSS from primary arms!

Am I the only one that got to the first pic and thought a child was getting married? My brain caught up to your narrative shortly after the picture.

You are a cool dad to save vintage guns for your kids.

Edit: just reread your post. It was all there, I just missed it.

I think I am going to try a shorter front sight first before doing an optic. The optic isn't going to be a first option because no other pistol in my safe has one and so I'd rather find an iron setup that works to train with here.

Hornady had an explosion killing one and injuring two. This happened on Friday. We were just there by accident. Pulled into the place to turn around. I had came down with a bug and if I would have been feeling better I would have asked for a tour. They have a huge place

It won't be Ukraine or Israel that does it. It will be election year panic plus Ukraine plus Israel that will do it. Rifle stash is in a good spot. I have one Ar with an un zero'd new optic that's going out to burn maybe 200-250 rounds sometime in the next few weeks, Otherwise I will mainly play with my new Mark IV for awhile. That's part of why I got it.

You don't hunt prairie dogs, you fish for them. I may have posted this before, but many may not have seen it.

For the uninitiated, prairie dog fishing is easy, fun, and profitable. Just get yourself a good deep sea fishing rod and reel. Use about a foot of steel leader (they’ll bite through the soft stuff) and a good treble hook. Bait it with a piece of greasy pork or cheap bacon (prairie dogs are carnivorous and love pork when they can get it) and cast it out into the middle of the prairie dog village. They’ll run away at first, they’re pretty skittish, but after a short while the smell of the pork will get to them and they’ll start inching towards the bait. Be patient, any movement will send them scurrying back to their burrows. After a bit, one of the braver (or hungrier) little rodents will run out, grab the bait, and stuff it in his mouth. Being the greedy little critters they are, he’ll take off running and swallow the bait whole to keep it away from the others. Give him plenty of line and time to get up a full head of steam. When he’s swallowed it and is running full blast, set the brake and yank back on the rod. This’ll pop him inside out and you’ll have a nice fur lined moccasin. Keep fishing and once you have a nice pair for yourself, you can sell the rest to the tourists.
