This post dedicated to @Tripleconpanna since he mentioned suppressors :D I finally went shooting for the first time in awhile over the weekend. The wife picked a varied collection for this trip. The YHM-9 got its inauguration and sounds similar to the Silencerco Octane 9 we have but looks better imo. The B&T TP9 I made some modifications to because the bolt catch randomly was activating suppressed so I got that fixed by making a beefier spring for it.

I see that (Mark IV???) lite. I had open heart surgery 30 days ago and finally decides it's time to get a .22 for the cheap shooting, to ease myself back into range time without recoil and to get my kid started in a few years. I found mine used and pick it up tomorrow. Kept going around in circles in my research only to repeatedly come back to the Ruger as the best all around package for the money for my needs.

Absolutely one of the most favorite guns we own. My only complaint is the 10 round magazines, which for a modern .22 is kind of pathetic (though they haven't really had any competition until recently with higher capacity .22 hand guns). It's what we start anyone who hasn't shot a gun with, and then the suppressor just steps it up a notch further since it's movie level quiet then.

I found this used in my LGS. Unfortunately it has this fake non functional thread setup under that thread protector because it is a version made for states where threaded barrels aren't legal. The cheapest option to accommodate the stricter states is apparently to have a version where they leave the barrel the same length but just make the tip a big piece of rubber the protector snaps onto to make it incapable of accepting threaded accessories.

I am disappointed but not brokenhearted as I was not looking to get a can when I found it. I found it and started to think it would be nice, being too dumb to pull the thread protector prior to ringing it up so i could fully understand what I was looking at. I read up, a few Mark IV Lite buyers have made the same mistake. I feel bad for the ones who've specifically sought used examples out as a suppressor host only to find the fake threads.

Have 600 rounds of 22 lr ready, just can't get to the range for about 3 weeks unfortunately. Had major surgery that impacts my ability to shoot for a few months. This was my excuse to finally get around to adding a .22 so the recoil won't tear me up for the first few trips.

I decided I want to enjoy whacking steel at my local 800 yard range, that supposedly will be expanded more in a year or two.

So I bought a precision rifle, an Accuracy International AT-X. I might have gotten carried away but I have lusted after one of these actions for a decade now. Combine this action in this new chassis with the factory two stage match trigger, and it pretty much checks every box I have except there is no factory magnum bolt/bolt face as of yet to run short magnum cartridges.

Current barrel is in 6.5 Creedmoor 1:8 twist, 5R rifling. Probably a Bartlein barrel since that is who the factory sources blanks from if memory serves. I chose 6.5 Creedmoor because it’s the easy button, plenty of factory ammo, plenty of load data, and all reports are that it’s not finicky to load for at all.

Still awaiting scope rings, an ARCA rail bipod adapter kit, and an Area 419 Hellfire Match muzzle brake. I will be using a long suffering Nightforce NXS 3.5-15X50 for sighting until my bank account recovers and I get a better idea of just how much glass this thing can utilize. Will also select a quiet maker next year too.

    How’d I do?

Scope mounted and leveled, stock set to my preference to get good eye relief. I’ll have to play with the butt pad height and cant once I hit the range.

    Muzzle brake installed and leveled.

Harris Bipod stripped down and reassembled on Area 419 ARCA rail adapter.

Just got done installing and not enough time to hit the range today to start a rough zero.

These two have become my favorites to take to the range. I shoot them both suppressed 100% of the time.

CAI imported MKE with a navy SEF housing, A2 stock, wide grip, and rugged obsidian .45 on a tri lug.
Ruger mkIV tactical with an EA nyx mod 1, and cheapo primary arms dot.

    Let’s hope so.

I have only factory ammo to run with right now to get an idea of what it likes and build up a supply of brass.

First range outing with the new AI AT-X in 6.5mm Creedmoor.

    About 80F today, light breeze.

The range was busy, and I was first out on call to work, so the luxury of taking my time and fiddling around wasn’t there. Got on paper at 25 yards, then 100, and shot 4 groups at 100 yards, and a single 3 shot group at 200 on another shooter’s target who allowed me to since there was too much going on to waste time changing target positions.

The trusty old Nightforce NXS 3.5-15X50 still tracks true, so it made everything easy.

    IMG_1602.jpg

5 rounds of 120gr Hornady ELD-M, right at .513” center to center if I measured correctly. I torched off 3 of these at 200 yards and they were right at 1” for the 3 rounds measured on the outside of each impact. No photo, verified with a spotting scope.

    IMG_1601.jpg

    5 rounds of 147gr Hornady ELD-M, around .624”.

    IMG_1600.jpg

5 more rounds of 147gr ELD-M, these suffered from me fighting with my rear bag and strung vertically for a .735” center to center group.

    IMG_1599.jpg

Worst group of the day, Nosler 140gr BTHP match. 5 shot group of .985” center to center. I will retest this load again to give it a better chance.

Rifle is very easy to shoot, trigger is outstanding. It’s a far more capable stick than I am a shooter, so I have a ton of room to grow.

I think this one justifies more magnification than 15X, so the saving up for more glass begins.
