Anybody collect Winchester 1887, 1897 or model 12's?

 

I recently picked up this K98k Mauser in 8mm. I'm taking it to the range this weekend.

 

New range beater. Had a 223 wylde upper on this lower that has given me nothing but problems. I want 2 functional 556
Guns at all times especially going into this election environment and I like my HD gun to mostly rest in the safe. My gunsmith is closed to new business for an unknown time frame while clearing his backlog. So I finally picked up one of those daily deal 280 dollar PSA M4 style uppers. Slipped on a plastic Magpul Mlok hand guard, old PA optic I had and got a Magpul rear flip up for it. Hope to get it out to zero and function test in a couple weeks.

 

Vfg added, after my first short range trip For rough zero and a few magazines. Action was gritty out of the box and started with some malfunctions, then everything suddenly got smooth and never had another problem.

 

Finally built my Form 1 suppressor that was granted in like January. Started out with a billet yesterday, and tested it today Completely made it up as I went along. It's a 1" core, with roughly a .050" wall tube, wrench flats on the tube and threaded 1/2-28, and I engraved the serial number on the side. The end cap compresses the tube and bolts down with 4x 4-40s on the end. It's meant for 9mm and is roughly 8" long, and is all 6061-T6. I put 30rds through it to test really fast and that's it, I feel like it's quieter than my Silencerco Octane 9 and feels considerably lighter than any suppressors I own but I haven't weighed it or tested it back to back. It definitely works really well, took maybe three weeks to get approved, and including tax stamp cost like $250!

 

That's actually a real quick turn around time for approval!! Great work... Would love to see a DB test w/both supersonic and subsonic ammo!

Do you have anything else in there acting as a baffle, or is it just the main chamber w/the metal sleeve??

 

Interesting concept for assembly. They are a lot of fun to build.

 

Just the five rectangular chambers. The first and last are 2" long and the middle three are about 1" long. I have another monocore and it's very similar except uses chevron shapes instead of rectangular chambers. If I do another I'll get sexier, I had some ideas for a hybrid core/cone setup or get fancy with the chambers, but this one was more a proof of concept.

I didn't trust my lathe skills to thread anything so just fastening with socket heads seemed like a good idea

 

I have two Model 12s, a 1930 16 ga and a mid-50’s era 12 ga. They’re both in fantastic shape considering their age. I wish I could find a ‘97 with its external hammer, but I understand their value has gone way up nowadays for a decent one. I don’t have a pic of my 12 ga, but here’s one of my 16 ga.

 

Looks to be a Russian Capture - I’ve got one just like with. How’d it shoot? Mind sharing what you paid?

 

What started our recent journey into firearms, finally got to take out my Grandpa's Colt 45 1911 that was given to us by his estate. Took a while to have it checked out and be sure it was good to fire.


Of course my fat hands, which get slide bite from my wife's Glock, suffered hammer pinch from the 1911:

It's a Series 80 made in 1999. It's locked up right now.

I collect pre 30's Nickel Steel model 12's. The top 3 are 12ga. Top is a trap model. 4 & 5 are the twins in 20 & 16 ga. 6th is a 12ga 1st yr 1914. 7 is 1897 in 16ga made 1901. 8 is 1887 12ga riot made 1888 owned by 1st Lt Texas Rangers A. O. Grimes.
