I live in Utah. I bought my truck a month ago in Ohio for MSRP. Limited hybrid TRD off-road. Everything on west coast was 10-15k over for anything other then basic sr5. Took me over a year to find what I wanted for a price I wanted. Dealerships are the worse. I feel like inventory is picking up or buyers willing to pay over is drying up. I get emails daily from dealers I have contacted asking if I'm sill looking because they have more inventory.

I bought a week ago and the truck was $2700 more than the one I ordered a year ago and never got. Difference was my trade went down upon inspection. So there are honest dealers out there.

I also saw one for sale that had $92,000 financed, 0r $104,000 cash!! I kid you not

Supply chain disruptions are not a bug, they are a feature. Manufacturers have been playing this card since the start of Covid. Why? Because manufacturers are colluding together so they can raise prices. Maybe not directly, but they know the end result. This is the arrogance of todays leadership. There is one manufacturer who is not playing by these set of rules. Legacy car makers, take note or you will eventually lose market share.

It’s really a perspective issue in a way. I know older guys driving brand new raptors and they could care less about spending $100k on it. Then you have the people who want to create the image of wealth so they are buying also to “keep up with the Jones’s”

A local Honda dealer here has a brand new TRD Pro and a new Capstone. Both were bought from a Toyota dealer in Maine and transported here to Texas. They have less than 20 miles and are being sold used for $86k. Long story short the dealer is trying to make $20k off somebody.

If it’s me I am going to wait a few more months. Income tax season will put money in the pockets of the people who want to pretend to be rich. Hopefully this is the last wave of buyers at stupid mark ups.

I think by summer supply should far exceed demand and it will be a buyers market.

Fred Haas in Houston used to have maybe 3-4 tundras on the lot last year. Now they have 40-50. Find a dealer with high inventory that realizes they need to start moving units

not all dealers are shady, I have a good one here, its also where I bought my 2016 platinum

I walked into my dealer in December, gave them 250 bucks for the exact allocation I wanted, boom, its being build in Feb, done, no add ons, no mark-ups.

The only thing it has that I didn't want was the spray in liner, they tried to remove it but the factory denied the request.

I also bought a AWD 25th anniversary Sienna for the wife, same day, its also being built , they were able to remove the tow hitch package and wheel locks in teh system, which was nice.

They only sell to local customers though.

Man, I know! But.....I'm short and have a short wife and short kids so they are a necessity that I didn't know I needed, but I'm glad I got them.

Took me a few decades, but I finally found one here in the KC suburbs. I sent my rep a text to let him know that after a dozen or so purchases, this was the first time I drove away and didn't feel screwed in some what or another.
Everything about buying my Tundra was super easy and I know it was mostly due to the straight shooting rep and dealer!

I feel your pain so I thought I would share. From my Tundra searching I found these two dealers that would sell their allotments at MSRP or below (like a tad below, do not get excited). I went with salt lake city cause it will be easier to fly into, their dealership is like 10 min from the airport.

Mark Miller Toyota (Salt Lake City) talk to Ken Shaw
Lithia Toyota of Medford Oregon, talk to Steve Kahae

Every dealer in AZ, CA, NV were still doing a +5k to +7k markup.

Is it absolutely imperative you buy a brand new truck? As long as the truck has been well maintained buying used is the way to go. We have been debt free for several years and now I can't imagine living any other way. Just a thought, my friend. Best of luck in your search!

I was also looking at Chevy's for a few days and it was mildly comforting knowing that for 5k I could just swap a different motor in. Then I came back to my senses.

I know a dealership in PA that is not charging a markup for a Limited TRD Off Road Hybrid in lunar rock if you're interested. I had to back out cause it was in QC hold. I can send their info to you if you would be interested. Could always set up car transport if you don't want to drive it back.

I wanted a faster vehicle so I also bought a Chevy SS... because 4 door sedans with big V8’s are hilarious.
Stay on top of oil changes and the variable displacement system won’t kill the motor.

Or better yet just budget the parts and labor to replace all of that shit with proper lifters and deactivate the variable displacement.

While you’re in there you might as well stab in a new camshaft too, because ‘Murica, and make some more power.

Lots of Tundra’s available in the Northwest for MSRP if you hunt a little. I actually got mine out the door with all licensing, taxes and fees etc at MSRP. If you go apples to apples that’s sort of like getting $1200 off MSRP. Not a Limited but it’s the SR-5 Off-Road Premium in Lunar Rock 6.5’ bed which I would think is in fairly high demand just because it’s still pretty well optioned at the lower price point.

Limited in Green on the lot now.

    None. Just bought.
That is absolutely ridiculous! Give a try by calling Liberty Toyota in Burlington, NJ. https://www.libertytoyota.com/
They‘ll most likely charge $2,500 over the invoice, but otherwise, a good dealership from my experience over the years.

Hendrick Toyota Fayetteville NC; Rocky Mount Toyota Rocky Mount NC (call and ask for Kevin); Toyota dealer in Sumter SC, all MSRP and willing to make some kind os small deal, no markup. Bought mine from Kevin in Rocky Mount three weeks ago. Fair enough deal for me and I will never pay an ADM. Rather walk.

You think Toyota is bad, shop for a Ford right now! I was looking at selling my Tundra but after dealing with Ford for a couple weeks, no thanks. Not even fully loaded, a Platinum is around $80,000 at MSRP before tax! But Ford is currently shipping without 5-6 tech features due to chip shortage and have just listed more removals this week. They remove thousands of dollars worth of features and give $300 credit. They have really bumped their heads!

The long delays seem to be ending though. I ordered one Saturday, got a build date of Feb 20 emailed to me Monday. More features removed and no credit given; I withdrew from the order Wed, haha.

Just do like we did - raise your own chickens, spend $1000 of dollars on a coop and run, and feed, lights, and 100 trips to Lowes for me to cobble this thing together.

We're probably sitting at $125/doz at the moment.

I feel the pain.... I know Im specific on what I want (MGM Limited 4x4 5.5 TRD Offroad and Boulder interior) but being in California its a total nightmare. A somewhat local dealer has been allocated TWO but are insisting on 10k markup. Im willing to travel 500+ miles but Ive had dealers in Nevada, Oregon, and Utah jerk me around as well. I drive a 2017 Tacoma that I have had since new, only has 25k miles.... Im starting to think I just may keep that forever.

^^^This^^^ Keep until you really need to get into a new truck. Maybe the prices will adjust and Toyota will have fixed/applied all TSBs/recalls right as the Gen 4 arrives.☹️
