You have to learn somewhere. Nobody is born knowing how to work on vehicles. The tundra is fairly simple and a good one to learn on.

It has definitely been an experience, luckily every thing I have torn down, I have gotten back together. I am taking a couple of days off, will hit is again hopefully on Thursday. This time I am going to check everything thoroughly before I start tearing apart. I'll post when I start.

Today I pulled both back wheel drums and checked bearing play. I had some horizontal play but no side to side play. And when I spun the wheel it was not grinding. I blew out the brakes good and put back together. Tomorrow I will drain the rear end fluid and check it. I also checked the ABS gear, and both were a little wet but not much? So not sure about that. Also I had to loosen up the brakes on one side to get the drum off and the ABS is going crazy now when i stop. I will have to adj. the breaks tomorrow. So, still looking for the problem.
    Any suggestions?

When I changed the front wheel bearings I put in a cheap bearing. A big mistake. I still think I am hearing front wheel noise. Tomorrow I will pull the front wheels and really check them again.

Ok, I have finally found the problem. The differential has a bad bearing in it.
Any suggestions? I have looked on line and it looks to be difficult job for a DIY?
Should I let Toyota do it or a 3rd party shop?

Any time differential work is involved, it's advisable to take it to a shop.

    Fixed.
I learned a lot of lessons here. And a mind boggling amount of service info.

I plan to keep the truck until it dies so good for me.
Also I have all the tools for the front bearings and the rear bearing removal, and replacement.
The rear bearing tool I bought, had to be taken to a welder, and have some extra welds done.

The rear wheel bearings were the hardest by far IMO.
I had to make sure the tone ring was perfectly allied with the seal. And removal was a little tricky first time.

Also I found a shop that specializes in Axle and gear boxes, what a wealth of info from this guy. Amazing, and honest small shop.

Time to get the pop up, and kayak loaded and go for a MUCH deserved get away!

I will make one more post with the kayak and pop-up attached just for grins.

So what was the cost? What did they do to the rear end? I'm in the same situation. I think I have a pinion bearing problem.
