    King 2.5 front coil overs
Hey yall! i picked up a 2002 Toyota Tundra 4x4 with 106XXX miles on it about a year ago in Oregon. I noticed shortly after I purchased it as i was driving back and forth up into the mountains that often times there would be a lagging thud between only the first couple gears.. its has started to get a little worse now at 122 XXX miles and it is annoying because i feel it takes away from the acceleration as i dont want to punch threw the first gears..

i read on some forums a while back that the 2002 tundra transmissions have been known to go out early and some people were throwing in 2003 or 2004 trannys to help resolve this issue.

Any advice on what i could do or where i can find a solution to this issue?

Also i have recently installed King 2.5 coil overs up front as the stock ones were completely blown and i had to drive up the state of Calinornia after new years.. I didnt realize these shocks wouldn't support a long travel kit so if anyone is interested in purchasing them or trading for longer travel King or Fox shocks, let me know!! They are in perfect condition, only about 1,000 miles on them never raced or off roaded with them.

You are correct.. the 2000 to 2002 transmission where bad. Toyota beefed up the transmission in 2003 to fix problems from lagging to reverse blowing out totally.

Before going to extreme drop the tranny oil and filter replace both see if the transmission comes back. I will assume you have checked the oil and it's red in color and no burning smell..

Edit what price for the king's?

If service didn't help unfortunately swap would be needed. If you are looking at keeping the truck have the doner transmission rebuild or get a remanufactured transmission. As I tell people don't just goto the junk yard and pick one up you are more likely to do the job twice not once.

If you can get a 03 reman that would be your best option for you. 03+ has stronger internals. Mine is a 03 and the transmission is very smooth even under some fast moving or towing.

On the flip side I will say this. If you can get someone to beef up the tranny you have now that's other option. Alot depends on the scope of the tech they have, and what he can do, and what he has access too in parts.

While you are in there don't forget about the torque converter. Make sure it's still good not leaking or locked up.

While the transmission is also out perfect time to inspect rear crank seals and inspect flywheel for anything wrong also.

My motto to it right the first time.
