Are the trucks ratteling and pulling on the mounting points causing the color changes?

I was watching a Toyota video and they talked about how they use plastic pellets for all the interior parts. Maybe just a tad bit of contamination in each batch?

Has Toyota even acknowledged there is a problem?

Is this happening on all the models?

Hopefully they fix the dang problem before they start on the 16s.

I would be pizzed as well.

I always thought Toyota had pretty decent plastic interiors on my 94, and 98. But you guys are saying the plastic just seems more overall lower quality than in the past?

Well until now we have not had a 2014 show up in the list but now that @Sean266 has them, I would say it is wide spread throughout the new models. And no it is not where the plastic is being pulled or rattled. It will just show up in random places.

Lame. Everyone that has this problem should email toyota customer service and copy the link to this thread and other threads that are probably out there on other forums.
Make it known. Definitely a manufacture defect in the plastic.

If I do it- MgGuires. Sometimes the car wash does it...my 2012 had no issues ...it seems only 3rd generation models are having this problem..

I found 2 spots on mine... front and rear passenger side doors. I may try the heat gun when I get some time off. And pay no attention to the dirtiness of my door panels as it's also my work truck.

So Toyota has a call out to their regional rep who is aware of these issues. It's just a waiting game at this point.

So a nasty idea... If you want to get Toyota's attention about this: go to a dealer, look at all the Tundras that have this problem, then post the vins here. I almost feel bad I came up with this, but I'm tired of stealerships - it's all smiles and trust when they're getting you to spend 30-50k, but afterwards - you're on your own buddy, it's not structural, we can't replicate the problem etc. That's not how it should be.

Curious as to why you refer to it as a stelaership?

This is a very common reference online. I don't want to generalize too much, but the dealers that actually protect and act in customer interest are few, to say the least, and often they're less competent than the actual customer. They take your money and send you on your way. And if you have warranty issues, better hire an attorney. There's 100's of verified stories online of normal, honest people buying a new truck - of any make - and getting screwed over by their stealership. I'm a bit perplexed by your question - if you want, send me a PM.

Sounds like you had some bad experiences. Most refer to it as a stealership due to pricing...yet, u
know you are getting OEM parts, not some Chinese aftermarket. Do you pay more? Sure, but they'll stand by it and you know install will (should) be top notch. In my experience, the dealership will answer any questions I have, and if they mess up- they'll make it right. You know if go in there for an oil change, they aren't going to see you some coolant change unless it's needed. Even then, they'll do what they say. Some mom and pop shops will try to sell you something you don't need, and then if you purchase it- they may not even do the service.

I'm not sure we live in the same reality and I can't see a very clear reason why you're advocating the dealership position instead of the truck owner position. The picture you're painting is true in some cases, of course, but is very far off from what normally happens, it doesn't take a lot of reading or experience to get it.

I understand alot of people online post about bad experiences. Like all things though, you always hear the bad, hardly do you hear the good

Of course. We should try to stay positive. But getting any corporation to aknowledge a problem is tought. Especially when it's just a green spot on a piece of plastic.

I guess b/c I've had relatively good experience with two dealers.
Toyota is looking into it. Some will replace the panel the spot is on, some don't....BUT I know they are looking into it..do I wish they had answer why right now? Sure. My thoughts? Bad manufacturing with the 3rd generation models.
That being said, I have a friend who is a mechanic for Toyota and I only let him operate my truck. He's not going to sell me some BS story, and I know what he says will happen...hopefully you can find a dealership that is willing to assist you from a customer stand point other than what sounds like bad experiences you've had with them.

Hey guys, Thanks for posting pics, Here's what this I believe this is.....

I purchased a 2015 tundra in April of this year and I experienced the same "green" marks. It was upsetting how easily the interior scuffs/scratches and these marks appear. I ended up trading the truck in for a new 2015 Limited model in July and it has the same issue. Traded because I wanted crewmax over doublecab.

HERE IS THE PROBLEM: Poor/defective dye job on interior. The green is actually the raw plastic material OR a green undercoat before factory dyed. This explains why when you get a new scuff or scratch the green begins to appear. I found this out because I tried to scrub the green off and as the dye rubbed off the mark got bigger so I tested in a new unaffected spot and got the same result. The plastic or undercoat underneath is a teal green. Also if you inspect your interior, you will see an overall poor dye job which appears very uneven in light. The most notable places for this are stress points and the lower trim pieces near the floor and underneath your glove box compartment.

** Another issue to watch for: poor exterior paint finish. Most notable on superwhite 2014+ models. Paint begins to rust due to common road debris. I have had 2 new trucks with under 1000 miles that now have rust spots on the bottom areas of the truck. I removed common road debris while washing and there is now rust spots. I live in Georgia and its the middle of the summer so there is no trace of road salts. Also I have seen other people complain about this issue from various states, so I know its just not an isolated defect.

CONCLUSION: Poor/defective interior dye job on all black plastic (leads to easy scuffs and dye wear spots), poor exterior paint finish resulting in tons of headaches for 2014-2015 tundra owners. Are they going to fix this for 2016.... doubt it.

So I did some research on the paint rust...aka rail dust. A good polish takes them out. There's a thread (somewhere on here) about that. I spent a good hour taking those little spots off.

I'm guessing the ones you had that would not come off may (or may not) be from the humidity you guys get there (I think?)

Wow. Ok. So, first of all they should've fixed the paint issues long time ago. It's a long standing problem with the paint being easily chipped on the hood. Even on one of the Autoguide interviews Mike says that this issue has been corrected by changing the primer or something. The fact that the brown spots supposedly rub off doesn't mean they should appear in the first place.

The plastics should be manufactured with color the whole way through - i.e. the whole plastic inside and out should be the same color. That way even if you scuff it or cut it, it's still the same color. This dye process has to go. This is especially important when you have to clean off real dirt or oil stains that don't come off without serious chemicals or rubbing.

I love the Tundra but they have to fix these issues because nowadays truck image, cleanliness and look are exceptionally important, and the paint and plastic on the truck are sub standard. It should be exactly the opposite.

Lol yeah, I was searching google to see if anybody else was having this issue with the green spots. After I saw this thread I registered so I could post my experience with 2 different trucks.
I just picked up some rubbing compound and some good polish. I will give it a try, thanks.

The rust spots are not only on Tundras. There are countless threads on silveradosierra about little rust spots on brand new GM's. As far as the plastic panels, I only have one spot that turned green and it is not where it was scuffed. I do have some scuffs and have scrubbed them but none have turned green. I am hoping Toyota corrects this and replaces our panels when they do!

Mine has the exact same spot on the door pocket in the same location. I have a 2015 1794. Toyota replaced the entire door panel. One other spot on the drivers seat plastic trim where the seat controls are located. Dealer has the part in stock and is waiting for me to come in for the replacement.
