Got an offer to move to Ohio. I live in Oregon work almost everyday, not a joke. It is expensive to live out west. A lot of people don't want to retire here because of taxes. The housing market is ridiculous. I have my own home. I here if I sell it I could almost afford to buy one in Ohio right out with the proceeds. Also I would be making close to same money with out all the hours. Wife is not too thrilled so looking for some feed back.

Anyway anyone live out that way? Would like to hear about that state. Good fishing and hunting? Things to do outdoors. Let me know what you know.

Probably have the best looking truck out there.

    Thanks

I live in SoCal and can relate to your dilema. Just focus on what will get you and your family to happiness! Being paid the same salary and no mortgage? Sweet! Leaving friends and family? Yes sad, but not impossible with visits that would be awesome!
I know @Prostar 190 lives in Ohio and always goes out to hunt, im sure he'd be good enough to chime in!

Where specifically? Been around the state. Lived in PA for 5 years. OH isn't a bad place.

Open space can be had. Outdoors yes. Stay away from the cities, goes for anywhere though IMHO.

Climate will be similar, will be a colder winter, depending where you are in OR.

Makes sense to work less, have more money, and enjoy some free time.

I lived there 35 years. Not the nice weather we have here in AZ, but okay. I’d stay away from Cleveland and Cincinnati.

Cleveland but I hear 1/2 hour out side of city is more rural. Tried of working every day, my job is secure here. I get paid good but my kids will be grown soon and my body will be more shot than now, work in a repair ship yard.

I could sell my house here but if I bought here again all profit goes to the new house down payment. Unless it was a down grade.

Is the company paying for you to visit the area and check it out for yourself? That way you get a good lay of the land, look at houses, talk to your future boss as to the good places to live?

Would be good to do a recon mission.

I moved from PA to NC. Initially took a pay cut. Bought a smaller house. But worked only 40 hours a week and regained my sanity.

    Be happy. Work less.

I live here. It’s quiet state and nothing famous nearby or here. Not a a lot of traffic issue tho. You will enjoy all the weathers here. And also donuts in snow. We don’t have lots of modified cars or trucks here but you will see here and there sometimes. Don’t try to over speed more than 1-2 miles you will get a ticket lol. I am not off road person but we have some trails here too. Welcome to Ohio

Hell, OH seems to be a great place. The members from there are salt of the earth types...if that says anything.

Well, except for that @Prostar 190 guy, he has way to much fun on here and home than any one guy should. Lol

Midwest guy here. I’d do it just to have tax relief. Affordable housing. Might get twice the house you have now. And not a owe a dime or much at all. Kids what grades they are in would be my thinking. Change may not be fun in that regard. That can be dramatic at certain ages. Greater Cleveland area is decent. Browns fan here.

I lived near Dayton OH as a kid in the 70’s when my Dad was stationed at Wright Patterson AFB. I remember it being surprisingly scenic with nice rolling hills here and there. The winters are cold, but OH enjoys all 4 seasons and has nice colorful Fall foliage. The summers are awesome. Dayton is a bit a ways from Cleveland, so I have no idea what it’s like over there, though.

With the money you save moving east, you could fly out west a couple times a year.

Working less. Same money in a more affordable environment. Change stinks sometimes. But you would be shocked how much you would save on things. Just about everything.

I have lived in Ohio all of my life and I think it's a pretty good place to live. I live in the country and can shoot or hunt every day. The salt from winter sucks balls but I just leave my nice cars set during the winter. We don't have bad gun laws and can own and hunt with suppressors so all in all pretty good.

Believe it or not, some of the biggest bucks harvested come from Ohio. But your wife probably doesn’t care about that.

Born and raised in OH Not a bad state, but near Cleveland you will get crap tons of snow that comes off lake Erie. Time for good snow tires on the tundra. Lol.

I dunno man..OR is beautiful. Yeah the politics suck like CA but still. Maybe rent your current house while you give it a try in OH so if you don't like it in 2 or 3 years you can always come back to your house. Once you leave an expensive state, it's tough to come back. Housing goes up faster than you save money.

I’m in California, I hate the political atmosphere here and daydream about leaving all the time. Selling my house here could get me much more somewhere else. I have a good job though and that tethers me down... for now. I say DO IT.

I'm an Ohio guy and although would love to live out west the housing is super affordable here. Gas prices are cheep. Great place to raise a family. My wife really wanted to move somewhere else but, being able to pay our debt off faster makes it easy for us to travel anywhere, whenever we want. Definitely a lot of cool places in Ohio and surrounding areas. .......and their are some pretty nice Tundras in Ohio by the way. Good luck with your decision

I also live in southern Ohio and for the most part like it. The only negative about Ohio is the weather is psycho lol. Great place to raise a family. Good hunting fishing four wheeling and camping. People are nice here and the job market is good. And if I get bored with Ohio Tennessee is only 3 hours away from me!!
