Comcast is still much better than ATT. Wife wasn't happy and complained about how slow it was so I switched over to Comcast. It's been great and wife is happy. Additionally, ATT customer service was terrible.

Yeah, I guess it depends a lot on what you need from it. For me 1tb bandwidth cap is a no-go. We don't have traditional TV and stream Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime, HBO, etc. Also, I hate how it's a shared distribution and during peak hours (5-10pm) my bandwidth would halve or worse.

Having experienced Comcast both as an employee and as a customer I will never go back unless they are absolutely the only option.

When we built our new house having fiber access was one of the perks - not a deal breaker if it wasn't available, but certainly a huge bonus to find out that it would be.

I hear you on the clear conscience point. I was an AT&T employee until this past Wednesday, and unless I have no other option I will never go back.

As for being preyed upon...you know I live in Alma, “Highest Incorporated Town in North America.” We have no fiber, cable, DSL, and the only options are satellite (F*** no) and microwave. Microwave is 10 down and 3 up but only when the moons align. I typically run half of those. Still a better option than Hughes Net or Exceed with an $80/50gb data cap. My daughter burns up 300gb herself, and the microwave plan I have gives us 200 so slowing down and paying a little extra doesn’t happen until the last week of the month and they refuse to give me the 350 plan because they’re scared I’ll go after them for not fulfilling their 15 gb download speeds that come with the 350 plan!!!

I’ll be moving back to the southeast on the 20th so things will certainly change, and I’ve already dumped television in my house

I have cable one, and they suck the big boar titty. I canceled the cable package since all they do is drop decent channels then raise the rates.

I pay $66 a month just for mediocre internet, I would gladly pay the same for google fiber, oh please please bring in google fiber to this redneck part of the country.

Haha, why you gotta bring me into this?
Unlike a previous post, I believe Comcast is a great company to work for and they provide a great product, as long as the network in the area is good. If there is something wrong with the network, then we need to fix it.
Comcast is currently a year and a half into their fiber deep network overhaul in the Denver metro area. A current node in the traditional hybrid fiber coax (hfc) network can have up to 1k addresses assigned to it. With that setup, you can run into capacity issues. With fiber deep, fiber is ran to each branch of the network which can cut the amount of assigned addresses to a node down to 15-25 which opens up a ton of capacity and opens the door for much faster internet speeds and more 4k tv down the road. This is happening in pre-existing networks. Many new builds, (at least in my area) Comcast is running fiber all the way to the premise.
If you have fiber running to your home or business and your services are down half the time, then obviously something is wrong with your feed. It could be something as simple as a dirty fiber connector or poor connector craftsmanship. Get a tech to troubleshoot it.
Gig speeds are now available in most Comcast markets, whether it is fiber or hfc. A Docsis 3.1 modem is required to achieve gig speeds if you are looking to own your own modem and subscribe to Comcast. Unfortunately, upload speeds are still advertised at 35 Mbps, which typically averages around 50 Mbps on various speedtests.
In the area I currently cover, 4 more upstream Docsis channels have been added, so faster upload is coming.
As far as price for gig speeds, I have been seeing free gig speed upgrades for subscribers bundled with internet and home security. I don't do sales, so I don't pay too much attention to promos and pricing.
When it comes to being a Comcast employee, I can honestly say they treat their employees well.

As far as Google fiber, I would sign up if the services and prices are better than other providers in the area. I am kind of disappointed they abandoned their plans of expanding into new markets. I guess they realized it is very expensive and hard work to wire a city. I would have welcomed the competition. It drives companies to raise their bar and be more competitive. Including the one I work for.

Thanks for the great information and yeah, GF is offering $55 a month for a year for their top end service! They did run their fiber cable to my house and in a box outside!

Time Warner/ spectrum customer service suck and for what they call high speed 300/20-40 speed I pay $90 and I’ve been with them years!

I know jack squat about fiber but am wondering if I should use my old ASUS R68 wireless router or better or just use what they have! I play PC BF4 type games as well as PS4 and Netflix a lot, we use the iPads iPhones MacBook Pro’s and DIRECTV!

Our house is a small single story 1200sqft and detached garage about 10’ off the house!

I know GF has their little round wireless box and there modem, I just didn’t know if their wireless box works as good as a ASUS higher end wireless modem, if so would I need two GF wireless nice or one for my set up!

Any way thanks brother for your explanations!

Is San Antonio had Comcast I would have got that years ago!

Fiber is the least expensive type of insrastructure to deploy.

Comcast sells low quality service to customers who dont have many other options. You are correct, without competition they will not improve their services. Their 1gb plans are 3-4 times the cost of their fiber competitors, with bandwidth caps, crippled upload speeds, and are not dedicated.

Even Century Link offers a 1gb pure fiber option for less than Comcast's terrible hybrid network, with pricing for life.

    Yo
Your router will work! If I'm not mistaken that router is an AC1900 router, more than enough for gigabit wireless in a 1200^ft area. I use an AC1900 as well.

No. Literally plug the Google modem into your Asus' internet port. You won't have to reconfigure anything. Have the installing technician disable the wires on the Google modem/router.

This is what I’m at with the Spectrum top speed service

Assuming after GF setup what would my up and down speeds look like compared to below!

I have CenturyLink (they have fiber, but they have no plans of running it to the boonies where I live). I stream everything on 40mbps and have yet to bog it down.

I just got fiber a few months ago, I went from Comcasts 250mbps down and around 15mbps up, or at least that is what was advertised. Realistically I got closer to 50 down and 3-5 up. During peak hours I couldn't stream a 4k movie.

You will LOVE your fiber. 800-1000mbps down and consistent 1000 up. No sharing with your neighbors. Pricing that doesn't change very year. Customer service people with IQs above 85. All the bandwidth you can handle with no caps or fees. I play BF4 on PC too. TheOGBackslider is my handle. You should add me!

It's not the material that is costly... Competition did not trigger the major network overhaul in my area. Century Link offers gig in Denver as well, to last I saw only 5 neighborhoods. Also, you have the option to remove bandwidth caps for either $40/month or go biz class. I have only seen 1 customer THIS YEAR exceed the data cap. The guy was a heavy torrent downloader who also had bots detected on his network. What the heck are you doing online to where you are exceeding that cap? There is always someone streaming in my house and I also have 4 1080p security cameras that are on 24/7. My max is only 450 GB. Upload speeds are going to improve. Comcast also has a gig pro package. 2 gig up and down... dedicated? What? You sound like you had a hard time at Comcast.

I worked for Comcast for years, and was a customer as well. They're a shit company. Just my opinion.

Yes, they offer GB service in some areas - for 4x the cost of their competitors.

I went over the data cap 5 times in 2017. I stream 4k, dont torrent, but upload security cameras to online backup 24/7. We stream all of our entertainment, much of it in 4k.

The months I didn't go over the cap I came exxrutiatingly close.

At no point was I offered an option to remove the data cap without going to business class, which is like $400 a month.

I can count on 1 hand how many times people were not getting their advertised speeds in the last 9 years I have been with the company. I run on slow speed service calls daily. Everytime, the story is the same. One thing in common: they are connected WiFi. Want constant WiFi signal? Eliminate the wireless interference in the area. Get yourself a decent router. When it comes to Network devices, you get what you pay for. If you lived in my area and you were only getting 50 Mbps, I would be willing to put my paycheck on the line that when I bring in my laptop and check off of your modem, your speeds are good.

400 a month? Wtf???? Is this the same Comcast we are speaking off. Damn it @T-Rex266. See what you did? Lol. I just want to watch my DVR'd NHRA drag races. Not debate.

I'm sorry but I call BS. I literally have a folder full of screenshots called "Proof that Comcast is Trash"

Comcast is constantly underperforming during peak hours.

I literally worked for Comcast for about 4 years. I saw it daily where customers were getting the shaft. Further, my B.S. is in network administration and security, I assure you I know how to test my internet speeds properly. I have my CWNA dude. My router is great. I use the same router I did with Comcrap a few months ago, only now it delivers the speeds I'm paying for.

Btw @geno0506, your Asus router is a very good quality router. Should be plenty in 1200 sq ft.

I'll definitely add you, I've been off for a while on BF4 but plan to get back on, I'm not a Top dog player like the young generation but I am no pro, just love to shoot shit up and have fun! When I start playing again, I'll look you up brother!

And you didn't mention biz gig. If that was the case, might as well go metroE. And like I said, 1 hand in last 9 years.... People always have a shocked look on their faces when I ask them to run a speedtest, then I run one.
