The hood is in bad shape and the tops of the fenders are looking bad too. The rest of the paint on the body is in good shape but I'm expecting the difference between the new paint and the old paint is going to be substantial. No need to paint the whole truck at this point, just trying to put a little lipstick on the pig...

Personally I think you'll regret not doing the paint on the whole Tundra. Did that myself 30 years ago on a Toyota Cressida. The cost went up the second time.

Don't think I'll regret it at all. This was bought as a farm truck. I got it cheap and I need 4WD on the farm. It will look different being painted against older paint, but if I don't paint it, it will just get worse. It won't be a daily driver vehicle, mainly used for farm chores and trips to the lumber store.

I understand where you are coming from and if it's just a farm vehicle it does make sense. Sorry if I sounded off line.

Guess it depends on your local shop. The one I use is pretty reasonable. And the price difference for hood and fenders vs whole truck would only be
    400.00 to 500.00
For as long as these things can last maybe worth it.

RR60 - The pricing I got I felt was pretty reasonable, so I decided to make a go of it. I'll post pictures after I get it back next week.

Have you considered a black, darker silver, or grey over silver two tone paint? If the paint is going to be substantially different you may as well make it look like you did it on purpose :D

Nope, didn't consider anything other than the original color. Paint has been ordered, so we're committed at this point.

Got it back from the body shop this afternoon! It took almost 2 weeks, but these guys went above and beyond what I had asked and it didn't cost me any more than the original estimate. They repainted and cleared the hood, repainted the grille, the lower metal trim above the bumper, both fenders, both A-pillars and cleared the doors so that everything matched. On top of that, they gave it a good wash and delivered it to my door all for the price of $475.00 !!

I am extremely pleased with the result. There is some minor orange peel in the paint, but this is a farm truck. Body shop recommended letting the paint cure out for a couple of weeks and then bring it back and they'll buff it. I will probably do this myself as I have the equipment.

I'll post up some pictures tomorrow...

Sounds like you got a great deal. Around here body shops would charge that just to paint a hood.
